3805 - OK, call me paranoid but . . .

. . . how do I tell if my new Denon 3805 is in fact a factory-direct new model rather than possibly a B-stock or refurbished unit? Is there a database where I can check the serial #? If one of you who have recently bought one yourself and told me your serial #, would mine neccessarily be seqentially a higher number than yours??

Can you believe me? I just got my 3805 and it is still in the box on my coffee table - unopened until I check I check in with you guys!!!????

Oh, by the way, did I scream . . . "YAAAAHOOOO" yet? I've only been researching this decision for over a year now!!!

Now the only other problem is that I don't have any speakers yet to hook it up to - hopefully I get them in the next month.

I'm serious about the title question though . . . how can you tell??

Paul-

First of all, congrats on the purchase! The 3805 is a really fine piece of A/V equipment. I, too, debated for about a year before finally getting mine and I've never looked back.

As far as whether your unit is B-Stock or Refurbished, my first question would be where did you get it and how was it represented? Also, price may indicate whether it's "factory fresh" or not. Some more info would help.

Congrats Again!

Thanks Jason,

I bought the unit through a reputable HTS installation company rather than just walking in and out of a B&M. The box is sealed, and the interior packing matches others I've read about. It has the newer blue screen remote. I am 99.9% sure everything is fine. I got a full receipt noting serial # etc., and the owner of the company said that both the 90 day full replacement and 2 year warrantees are all valid and he will do the leg work or taking it in getting it back to me if anything goes wrong.

I am really excited! Now I've just got to get the speakers!!!!

I've narrowed my choices down to:

Monitor Audio Silver series (S10 mains, SLCR center, Sfx surrounds

or

Paradigm Monitor series (Monitor 11 mains, CC370 center, ADP370 surrounds

or

Axiom Audio Epic 80 system (without their sub)

These systems would be mated with a Sunfire sub and would have a Harmon Kardon Citation 16 (160wpc) running the mains.

Anyone have any comments or suggestions before I plunk down about $3k more hard earned greenbacks?????

As far as I'm aware, Denon B-stock is always labelled on the box with a big red "B." I've bought B-stock stuff before, and everything was so marked. At any rate, so long as the HT dealer is authorized to sell Denon warranty service should be no problem.

Congrats! That's a very nice receiver.

Paul-

I've been very happy with Paradigm gear and have had everything from Atoms and Titans to my current Studio 100, cc570, and ADP-170 (soon to be ADP-470) hooked up to my 3805 with great results. See if you can do some in-home auditioning with your dealer/installer.

Quit worrying and open the box.

I work for a High end Denon retailer, and I hear your pain. Believe me when I tell you that you cannot hear a difference in a B-stock unit and a brand new one.
All Denos are fine. B-stock just means that the unit may have been sent in for a minor repair, but it's refurbished to Deno's specs...meaning that it is worthy of being sold in the store.
If you bought it at a reputable dealer, chances are that it is NOT B-stock unless it id discontinued.
