I just discovered Underwoodhifi's site and I am curious just how good their products are. So I ask, would someone rather buy a modded 3805 by them or a brand new 3806 from a retailer?

sorry, here's the link.

If they were that great, they'd simply build receivers themselves. You can purchase a Denon 3805 on Ubid for $699, so their asking price is a little over the edge - considering their upgraded parts are probably less than $100.

"The following details our very comprehensive Level 2-mod ($1,400 + shipping retrofit, $1,990 + shipping new)"

yea, I'm thinking just because a part costs $1 instead of 1 cent it doesn't male it better.

I was reading part of the summary concerning the modifications. They seem to be selling modifications that have one real purpose: to empty your wallet. Cases in point: 1. changing the OEM capicators out for 'audiophile approved' units. 2. Changing out the line level buffer op-amps for instrumentation quality OPA-627 op-amps. [While these op-amps might be advantageous for a labratory grade measurement device; they have no objectively demonstrated benefits for use in your reciever.] 3. Changing out the standard metal-film resistors for 'audiophile approved' ones. 4. Changing out the RCA jacks for exotic 'audiophile approved' ones. 5. The list goes on...

If you want to spend that extra money, spend it on acoustic room treatments; these will actually improve your sound.
