Hey,probaly an easy one for you guys....not for me though. I'm running 2 boston vr975 towers that have a built in sub and amp. I just hooked up my AR 12 in. sub box to the system. so now I have three powered subs. What should I set my reciever SW crossover to? every body says 80HZ? Why? Why not 60HZ or 40Hz? I kinda understand that the crossover will limit the range of LOWS that will be heard but isn't the lower better?

the crossover frequency will decide what frequency your mains and subwoofer plays ...

if you set it at 80hz (recommended) 80hz and above will be played by your main speakers, 80hz and below will be played by the subwoofers. basically, the higher it is, the more frequencies your subwoofer plays ... which i think is what you like.

OK I think???? If I'm setting the sub crossover at 80hz, how will the subs get lower than 80hz? Sorry if I sound stupid but trying to learn.

I have no idea how you want to set up multiple subs, but the crossover function is backwards in your mind. the subs will get everything lower then 80hz. above 80hz will go to the mains.

ok in that case ... the subwoofer crossover (on the sub itself) needs to be bypassed or set to the highest level so that it would not cascade with the receiver-set crossover.

yes, when set to Xhz crossover on the receiver, Xhz and below would go to the sub and Xhz and above would go to the mains.

Thank you thank you!!! that makes sense!I had the reciever set at 40hz. I will set it to 80hz and more lows should go to the subs.:D
