I have 3 JL audio 12w6 duel 6 ohm subs. Hadthese when i was in high school. Used them for about a year and have been sitting in my room since. Was thinking about using these subs in a newbox fora home audio build. but mabye just 2 of them. they arerated for 300 wattsrms each. Would this be a good idea to use them? There just sitting there. Theses are the 1st versions thatcame out (originals).
The W6 version 1 is still a high quality driver, though it has been substantially exceeded in performance by the likes of the W6v2, Infinity Kappa Perfects, etc..
If you use all 3 of these, you will have a very good amount of available SPL with relatively low distortion. However, each sub needs about 5 net cubic feet. Since the power handling and excursion is very limited on these subs, you can get away with 2 x 4" cylinder vents on each sub, each vent being about 25" long. Most modern subs require more complex/very long slot ports to keep air speed in the port low enough to prevent substantial port compression.
Can you deal with 3 cabinets in your A/V room? Each being about 6 cubic feet (gross)? If so, go for it. You should provide about 200-250 watts each of these drivers.
