While 3.5 mm to RCA plug stereo audio cables seem to be interchangeable, there seems to be no convention for the configuration of 3.5 mm AV cables.
While the cables that come with both the Canon Mini-DV camcorders and the Toshiba portable DVD players are configured tip to white RCA plug, first ring to yellow RCA plug, second ring to ground and the collar to red RCA plug, I found these cables will not work with the AV in and out jacks on a GPX portable DVD player.
I was surprised when I purchased two Stellar brand 3.5 mm AV cables from MCM to find that the part number 24-9766 3' cable follows a different configuration than the part number 24-9767 6' cable!
The 3' cable is tip to yellow, first ring to red, second ring to white and collar to ground while the 6' cable is tip to white, first ring to red, second ring to yellow and collar to ground.
If any reader has any other 3.5 mm AV cables, I'd appreciate it if they would trace them out and add that information (along with the device the cable works with) to this thread,
