I'm re-doing my home theatre, and I'm having trouble getting a second digital optical source to work. I plan to run my Hughes HD STB and my DVD player into a Denon AVR-4802R using Digital Optical cables.
When I connect my DVD player into OPT1 it works great. BUT the STB running into OPT2 gets no sound. First test: move the STB cable over to OPT1 on the AVR. It works ! Now I get sound from the STB. So, the DVD player and the STB generate DD 5.1 sound on OPT1.
So this seems like the circuit of OPT2 has died. I tried the STB on OPT3. It fails on stations transmitting DD 5.1, but works on standard stations transmitting standard definition.
I have tried rotating the input selector to every option just in case the Digital Assignment is set wrong. No change. I've checked in the Digital Assignmnent part of the Denon AVR Setup and OPT1 is set for DVD, OPT2 is set for DBS and OPT3 is set for VCR-1. Further, as you rotate the input selector, it says OPTICAL1 when you get to DVD, it says OPTICAL2 when you get to DBS, and it says OPTICAL3 when you get to VCR1.
Thoughts?
