Does anyone know what the bigest difference between the Denon 2910 ans 1910 would be as far as picture quality? Is it just that the 2910 has a better processor to do the upconversion etc?

2910 has - better build quality, DVI & HDMI outputs, 216 MHz 4:4:4 12 bit Video DAC's, Adjustable Chroma Delay and Level, 8MB drive buffer (layer change), DVD-Audio and SACD, Full Digital Bass Management for DVD-Audio & SACD, Pure Direct Modes, and last but not least did I mention Better Build Quality.

I tried both, the 1910 is half the size of the 2910 and at least 1/3 the weight. The 2910 is just an overall better unit.

I believe 2910 is made in Japan but 1910 is made in China. It doesn't mean that 1910 is lower in quality but I guess it has a lower assembly cost.

I have not tried the 1910 but I have the 2910 and even with the latest firmware it still has an issue with macroblocking. I'm hoping to get a response from Denon on a fix for this. I'd suggest you search for macroblocking before making this investment.

3910 V 2910

After reading a few review articles on the 3910 Vs 2910, I am now pretty confused. I was going to just buy the 3910. but considering it is $600 MORE than the 2910, is it really worth the extra?

Has anyone has some real exposure to both of these units that could comment?

thanks!

I spent about two hours comparing a 2910 and a 3910 side by side at 480p on the same TV for picture, as well as looking for differences in both 2 channel music and 5 channel. I could observe no difference in picture quality at 480p (there *might* be a difference at 720p or 1080i, but I don't have a TV that supports those resolutions). In 2 channel music I once again couldn't tell a difference; I think the 3910 might have marginally better at DVD-A or SACD, but I can't be sure it wasn't the placebo effect. In any case, the music and video were both well reproduced (and in fact are better on my setup at home than the Pioneer Elite gear on display with it).

I wouldn't consider the 3910 UNLESS you've got HDMI or DVI-D inputs on your TV and a Denon receiver that uses the Denon link-and even then I'm not sure its worth the extra dosh w/ HD-DVD on the 5 year horizon.

Bryan...but that's just my 2cents...

I was going to buy the 3910.

And then add a multidisc CD player to handle quick transistion of discs during play back of music.

Then I remember Betamax.

And since I could not find a single person that told me the the 3910 was all that better than the 1815, and I could not see a visual difference, I ended up with the 1815.

Is it perfect? Nope. Do I regret the purchase? Nope. I will just wait a year or two, let somebody win the format war, and grab the winner.

PS: Learned my lesson the last time.... I bought a $700 Betamax. I Loved the player, but Sony lost the war.
