Initial Blu-Ray release

Any idea which video resolution(s) or audio formats will be supported on these initial Blu-Ray releases?

Blu-Ray

I'm hoping Michael Jackson's "Thriller" gets released on Blu-Ray...I'm dying to replace my Betamax copy!

Maybe I'll have some patience this time around...

Well the Toshiba HD DVD player coming out this year, the HD-A1, seems to only support 720p/1080i... Which makes me wonder just how "high def" these new players (or the software) will be.

If the software comes out as anything less than 1080p source material I think they are missing the boat.

We'll check out as much info as we can get at CES.

Keep the info flowing, I am under the belief that 1080p is one of the key elements of Blu-Ray being a success and it sounds like no matter what the output of the devices are, many of the discs may be mastered from movies at 1080p.

Lots of good info is going up over at the Blu-Ray website...

I'm amazed how quickly they are getting source material to market. I'm guessing BMX is correct, but is there any issue of playing 1080p recorded material on a 1080i/720p set? You'd never think of having to "downconvert" on a $6000 1080i plasma unit.

If they price these Blu-ray units under $500 by mid 2006 (I'm sure they'll start out around a grand), and discs at $19.99 (sd dvd's are being sold at local Blockbusters for $7 - $10ea), the units will fly off the shelves faster than XBOX360. People are so eager to take full advantage of their new HD sets, especially due to lack of HD network programming. It should be a fun year with HD.

I'll be interested to see how quickly Blockbuster and Netflix jumps on the bandwagon. It will be strange to see HD-DVD titles in one isle, and Blu-ray in another.
