I'd love to go, but that's a bit too far from TX. How would I find shows that are closer to the Dallas area?

Good question that I don't have a good answer for unfortunately. I usually hear about shows via forum chatter, news/trade show coverage here at AH and at other Audio oriented sites, etc.

After last year's CAF I swore to myself I'd ignore it next year. Dennis Murphy said the same thing after he worked his room alone for 3 days. But this year Jim Salk will share a room with him, making bathroom and sanity breaks possible. So he'll do it again. Maybe he can talk YAA into coming down with his audiophile-grade forklift :D.

Most of the speakers the previous two years, except the Phils, were on the very expensive side and only a few sounded any good. I saw the photos of Volti Audio from a previous year, and yes those were the only horn speakers I heard that sounded good to me.

This hotel is a different one than last year. Its in downtown Silver Spring, not a great place for restaurants and things to do in the evening, but it's an easy walk to the Metro (Red Line) which makes anything in downtown Washington easily accessible.

I'll probably be there on one day, and I'll be happy to meet with other AHers who do come. The Dogfish Head Ale House isn't too far away.

Bring Alex and you can enter as a pair in the Double Blinded Twister Competition on the 4th floor.

I'll be there with bells on...or at least a camera to chronicle the twister competition and maybe take a few shots of nifty speakers. :D

I'm going to try to make it this year. I've missed the last ones they've had because of scheduling, so I really want to make it to one. If I ever presented stuff there I think it would be a more realistic distribution setup. Still pricey at over 20 grand to do a whole house setup, but cheap by a lot of standards. Put up some monoprice in-wall speakers against the 'quality' competitors just to piss some people off.

I like good speakers, and companies like SVS really are important, but some brands you are paying for the labor of the build more than the quality of the sound. Or you pay five times as much (or more) for that last 5 to 10 perecent jump in quality. I'm more of a 90 percenter when it comes to audio in the home.

Still, would be a fun day I think. Hopefully could meet some AHers.

Yah, in your line of business, the easier sell would be in new construction/ remodels where the investment can be rolled into the total job.
The value is there, just tough to sell as an afterthought. Especially to the spouses.
I'm with you on the diminishing returns thing too.
Cheers, Mac
ps I'll have to wait for RMAF
