I am looking for a 5.1 or more refurb, i would like pre outs, but its not a deal breaker. Does anyone know of any current deals? Or any sites to regularily check?

You'll have a hard time finding pre-outs at that price. I'ld look at Onkyo and Yamaha receivers as they are generally cheaper. If you don't need pre-outs, I'ld get the Panasonic SA-XR55

If you can spare another 80 bucks or so, get a new Pioneer VSX-816. Otherwise, search around for a used or refurbed VSX-815.

Refurb receivers

Ecost is an authorized dealer for refurbished Onkyo and Denon receivers. Dakmart is also authorized for the refub Denons.

HK has an ebay store harmonaudio where they sell their refurbished stuff with the full warrantee.

Pioneer makes some good stuff. My father has an old pioneer reciever from the early 80's and its still running strong! Yamaha makes some good stuff too though.

Where are you located? Any Circuit City or Best Buy locally? You can go there and look for open box deals on the Pioneer 815/816. Actually you can currently get the 816K from Circuit City for 240 after rebate if you order via their website for local pickup or free ship.

For that price you will probably need to sacrifice pre-outs. In the below $400 category Onkyo or Pioneer are, IMO, the best options.

The 703 was one of the ones I was looking at, but I saw it a little cheaper someplace else, 399, I think. Can't find it now. I ended up with the Yamaha RX-V659 for 350 bucks. It seems to be a really solid unit.

I know what you want.......I am in the same situation and I am about to travel to the USA and I'll buy the Pioneer vsx-516 which is exactly the same as the 816 minus some option that neither you or I will ever use.
The 516 is only a mere $199.00 a real bargain.

HT Sub

I would cancel your order on the HT-100 sub. It will be outclassed by the Axiom M80s. Those floorstanders will play down to the 30-40 Hz range which will be plenty for music. To fill in the low end on HT, save up for a 10" or 12" sub from SVS or HSU.

Also note, the M80s are 4 ohms. Hopefully that receiver will be able to keep up. The Axioms will still sound great if/when you are ready to expand into a full HT.

We bought that very reciever for my son through the ebay harmon store. Simply put I don't think we could have done better for a two channel system at a reasonable price. I don't think it will have any issues at 4ohms as HK is always talking about their high current capabilities. (gets debated a lot here)

Sounds like your on your way to an awesome system. :)

I am aware that the axioms ar 4 ohm, and that was a major part of why i bought the reciever i did, 150 watts into 4 ohms.

Also the svs line is 250-400$ more, and i really just couldnt make the stretch. the h-100 is highly praised, and will have to fill in the last 10 hz or so that the axioms miss untill i can buy a much better sub. I am in an apartment after all, the h-100 may be to much :D
over all i dont think i could have done much better for a 1100$ system.

Budget Receivers

I would check accessories4less.com on a regular basis. They are an authorized dealer for Onkyo-Marantz and several speaker companies. I just brought a refurbish Onkyo 603 to replace a Pioneer Elite 24TX that died on me. The unit was in impeccable shape (No pre-outs though) and has 90 real world watts per 7 channels.

They also have a new Marantz 4600 for $ 299.00. I almost brought that (and it does have pre-outs). The only reason I went for the Onkyo is because the 603 upconverts all signals to components and I wanted only one connection between my tv and the receiver. The Marnatz does upconveret but only to S-Video but it does have 2 components inputs and one output (HD).

The Marantz seems to be steal and the receiver has gotten many great reviews from numerous sites.

I've been buying items from accessories4less.com since 2000 and have not had an issue yet.
