Sucks that your TV died, but I never understood the rationale behind "my xxx brand product died, therefore I will never buy that brand again." Products fail sometimes. That's life. Your TV could have been Samsung, LG, Sony, Sharp, or whatever.

Service plans are always a "waste of money" until you wish that you had gotten one.

$1900 to fix it? lol. You would be ~$100 short of getting a 60" ST50 for $1900.

Do some research on that period of time for Pana plasmas. Known issue that Pana isn't owning up to - therefore I'll never buy another Pana product again.

no shilling or other brands, bought p50G10 from best buy 2/21/2010, watching and all of sudden TV goes dark, and red light blinks 7 times, stops and repaets itself. Hit the internet to see issue and find everything about bad boards. Called Pana and they said out of warranty, take to some place for repair. Look that place up and there's negative reviews for their service. Took to local repair shopn Saturday, they call back Monday and say the display is bad, $1,900 to fix, better off buying a new TV. Something about Pana and Sony charging reidiculous amounts for their parts.

hmm, looks like your best bet is to get 2nd quote - I got quote to fix my 6 years old LG 42" plasma from a local guy for $350, however I decided not to use his services since new 42" now days cost $400-500
I recently bought new 55ST30 for a bit under $1000 - I consider that is great deal since my last crappy 720p 42" LG costed me $1800

I see your issue is with local guy - sorry there are plenty of shameless people.
My good friend has a minor dent/scratches on his Infinity G37 front bumper and he got several body shop quotes ranging from 250 to 400, except one place asked for $1400... Guess which one he DIDN'T pick ;)

Sorry to hear about your TV. I have the 50" G10, too. Luckily, I haven't had an issue like that. I don't like how the black levels got lighter with use, though (which is one issue that they denied for a while, I believe). I like the antireflective coating vey much, though - and I'll have to see what the new ones look like without it.

My dam Vizio LCD survived a water deluge from the washing machine where water ran in from the top and ran out of the bottom when the plumbing let go. It just won't die :( I have two years on the insurance to claim if this set goes bad but its most likely won't. I thought for sure a new display was in the works... was looking at a 60" LG plasma.

I had this problem with my 50" Panny PZ77 out of warranty, called plasma concierge were I registered my TV and they asked what the sequence was of the blinking red light, I told them, two days later Panasonic Service was at my door with the replacement part, install took fifteen minutes, no charge, still performing flawlessly three years later................

I would call Panasonic first and foremost. If there is no physical damage to the TV, they will sometimes step up and take care of customers. Not always, but sometimes.

The bottom line remains that Pansonic has a failure rate which is about half the national average. This doesn't mean their stuff doesn't fail, and sometimes at a very poor time, but it is still one of the most reliable brands that money can buy, and with some of the best prices out there for the quality you get. Compare to LG which has a failure rate that is about twice the national average, and it makes Panasonic a pretty solid product for a lot of consumers.

Your situation is extremely unfortunate, and I feel for you, but I would still recommend Panasonic to you, or to anyone else who is looking for the best display with the highest reliability on the market.

I know I've had my Samsung go to the toilet and I still ended up buying a new plasma from them last year.

I have had my V10 for 3 years now & the picture is still stunning!! That's even after the black levels got a little brighter...yes they were a bit aggressive with their brightness compensation, but they have fixed that issue. It's just that Panasonic plasmas still offer THE BEST picture per $ AND THE BEST picture PERIOD!!! This years VT50 model is the new king of picture quality according to all the reviews & measurements.

Look...no company is going to have a 0% failure rate, I'm sorry for your headache of having to deal with a broken tv, but you really shouldn't write Panasonic off as an option for your next tv.

I have had my 50" Panny on the back patio for 4 years now. Hot Texas summers and one pretty bad winter (for Texas) and the thing is still going strong. I never expected it to last over a year.
