 I have a 5.1 setup and with my amp having 2 subwoofer outputs i am interested in buying a second subwoofer. The second would be different (my current sub is no longer sold). Would it make a big difference having 2 subwoofers? I am looking at a couple subs, there the same but ones 10 inches, the other is 12, would getting the 12 inch make alot of difference?

2 are better than 1

I am running 2 different kinds of subs and I have not had any
problems with integration (besides using the phase adjustment and tuning the crossover points to match) and considering that 1 sub is a JBL PB12 12" sub and the other is a Velodyne CHT-8 8" sub I think that you wont have any problems and if anything I have found that the subs compliment each other quite nicely, where the JBL lacks in the mids the Velodyne makes up quite nicely and likewise I hope that this info helps you out and that you have as much sucess as me

2 fills the room

I'm using two subs also. A Velodyne CHT15 and an older MTX 12". My room is 16 X 28 and they sit at opposite ends of the room. I can tell a difference if one of them is turned off. I have found that using two in this room really helps to make the subs invisible....the bass is just there and seems to be coming from everywhere. Hmmmmmmmmmm wonder how three would sound?

Two smaller subs are a much better option than one large one, they are easier to place and acoustically easier to set up than one sub.

I use three, two Yamaha YST-SW800 in front and one smaller YST-SW320 in the rear, get fantastic low end for movies this way.

No problems having 2 small sub as a set up, or 1 sub as long as you are happy with the sound. Films will sound just great. Alot of new AV amps offer two sub options and some Demo rooms have tried 1, 2, 3 and even 4 subs... and in the end sicking to 1 or 2 subs. .

No; but depends on room size (Do you have a large room area?) A sub is used for low frequency output. Heard, not seen is the basic rule with subs....... :)

I have a quite small room, long and skinny.
Does it matter if one of the subs is quite a bit bigger than the other?

You can use a RCA Y-splitter and hook up two subs to a single LFE output. There is no harm to be had by using a splitter, in fact many subwoofer manufacturers that have an "auto-on" circuit recommend using a Y-splitter to hook up a single LFE output to a subwoofer amplifier with left/right RCA inputs.

Would having one big sub at one end of my room and another small one at the other end be better or worse than having them both at the same side. (my room is long and skinny)

One good sub placed in the right placed and calibrated right is all most would need. Like frankie said, heard, not seen.
