Amp is built right in so no I don't need amplification. I can power it through an amp however. Many reviewers found that there is a difference between the two methods. I haven't spent enough time A/Bing that theory to be sure.
Oh, forget outboard amps man, just use what ML gave you. That's why you bought them too. They will be fine, and are designed for the speaker/application.

They are revealing. It's almost hard to listen to poor recordings and some compressed music. For SNR the yamy's both list 100 DB and the marantz lists 102. THD is a bit more in analog on the Marantz but I am thinking it won't make much of a difference.
Then I give a vote for the Yammy, hehe. Maybe we can't tell the difference, I don't know, but I do believe analog transparency can make a difference on electrostats.
The "need" for a new AV receiver stems from the W wanting one, and she refuses to entertain the zone 2 option from the z7. She can then plug in her Ipod, laptop, PS3, cable box, CD player, and now apparently she found some records she wants a turn table for. Yeesh. I require it to be a networking device, so that's the reason I end up looking at the higher level gear.
I hunted TT recs here for an older retired friend, who has a doctoral in conducting from Cincinnati, and among the various recs, including Ascend Sierra1s, Outlaw stereo receiver, he is happiest with the TT. It was TLS Guy that passed this rec along, after asking. Now, I don't know how much his rec would change today, since this happened nearly two years ago, and who knows what you're willing to spend. Get a nicer cartridge upgrade if you go for it.

I got the ML's because I got a "smack your grandma" good deal too. :)

The SR7005 and A3000 are definately better units than my z7 from a tech standpoint. No clue about the anthem loaners connectivity. I still need to mess with the ARC system too, anthem however does have a strong dedication to 2 chan sound. When I think of the $$ I could save(read buy other audio stuff with) for a nearly equal unit the diminishing returns come on strong and fast.

I love this pic BTW.... I didn't even see the ML on the woofer untill I snapped a photo.

Last night I was taking the anthem out of the box and going to spend some quality time A/B ing and rocking out. I head off to grab the z7 and shamalama ding dong the snow melt has my basement wetter than Margret in monsoon season.

So that ended my fun without a note played or a receiver plugged in. In fact, I unplugged the HT and moved the wood out of harms way.

What I can say though is the Anthem 500 though is smaller than the z7, and lighter, but it's pounds per cuf is insane. They must use osmium in it's construction. I will do a review of the receiver, and with any luck ARC vs YPAO. Hopefully this weekend will work.

.... While taking care of the water issue in the basement.... the drain clogged and backed up.

What a weekend. I did have some intimate time to recalibrate the YPAO. I'll watch some material and then test the Anthem and it's ARC system.
