I purchased a 7.1 setup from Axiom a while back but the two extra QS8 v2's aren't getting used yet because I still haven't upgraded to a 7 channel pre-amp. What I have is plenty of amplification though and I want to use 'em. I'm wondering what type of damage would I do to the imaging if I set them up front next to the M80 v2's? I can answer this question myself but I don't like my conclusion........... so I guess what I'm wondering is if anyone has a great idea for the extra speakers?
For those who aren't aware, the QS8's have two 5.25" woofers firing up and down respectively and two 1" tweeters firing diagonaly forward, 90 degrees off-center from each other. When I first ordered all the speakers, only two QS8's arrived the first day so I went ahead and set them up on the two front main channels to see what they would sound like and with the geometry of the speakers it was so original and cool sounding.
Thoughts?

Yamaha presence speakers

If you have a Yamaha that can do 5.1 + front presence speakers then that might be appropriate. Otherwise wait for the pre-pro upgrade to use the full 7.1 system with back surrounds. If you have extra amp channels, you could use the extra speakers in the bedroom or study for background music.

No, I have a HK AVR7000. How exactly do the front presence channels work on the Yamaha? Is it a whole different (I can't think of the word) preset equalization? Or is it an attenuation on the mains?

I've got another mid 90's Denon setup running the hallway, kitchen and bedroom with speakers all over so I can't realy fit any more anywhere else.

Thanks for your thoughts.

I haven't heard a system with the "presence" speakers hooked up. You are supposed to place them higher and to the outside of your mains and the Yamaha uses them in it's soundfield programs to create extra ambient effects. Seems interesting, but not worth you buying a new receiver for.

I found presence speakers to be utterly useless in both setups I heard them in.
