2-Behringer A500 Amps In My System!!!

Hi Fella's, I've been in the market for a new 2 channel amp for awhile now & couldn't believe the prices I was getting. Then I read the recent thread about the Behringer A500 amp. It sounded pretty good so I figured to give them a try. I ordered 2 from Parts Express at $179.99 ea, no tax & free shipping plus a 45 day return policy. I figured I didn't have anything to lose. Let me tell you I am VERY, VERY, VERY pleased w/ their performance to say the least. I have them in bridged mono mode putting out 500 watts per channel each. My mains ( AAD 2001 monitors ) never sounded better, sweet, smooth and w/ plenty of dynamic punch when called for. The sound is extremely neutral w/ no coloration added from the amps. These amps run absolutely quiet as a church mouse & barely get warm to the touch after being on for hours, I also have them stacked which is not a problem. I was very hesitant to purchase because of the price. The fellow at Parts Express laughted because he hears it all the time. Maybe all the other amps are just so over priced & we fall into the marketing plan of these companies that have us believing that audio gear that doesn't start at about a grand & up just isn't any good. I don't know how Behringer does it for the selling price but I'm not complaining. On the other hand what makes an amp at say $5,000 worth it? Do these companies have us all snookered? I would like to put the A500 amp into a Krell or Mark Levinson chassis & have a blind ABX test w/ some so called "golden ear" audiophiles. I would lay money that thay all would flunk the test. Do not be afraid to try this amp, you will be extremely pleased w/ it's musical performance!!! Boy I love saving money too!!!

Pearsall, congrats on the new amps! I've been hearing great things about these amps on this forum, they almost sound too good to be true! Just wondering, what amp did they replace? Have you ever had the opportunity to listen to a krell or a levinson?

Pearsall001, just a question. Are the rack mount ears removeable? I've been entertaining the idea of a pro sound amplifier for awhile now, but I've never seen one up close and I guess I'm not crazy about how it would look in a standard furniture style a/v rack with the rack mounts on it.

Thanks in advance.

Rollinrocker, the A500 is replacing a Jolida 502B integrated tube amp. The Jolida is a wonderful amp & I really hate to see it go, in fact I just bought it back in July. I will be posting it shortly for sale. At the time I purchased the Jolida I didn't plan on changing speakers. But you know how that goes. Upgradeitis!!! The only reason I am replacing it is because the new AAD 2001 monitors I just got are power hungry at 86db sensitivity at 8ohms. The speakers I had before were Energy Connoisseur C7's which were 90db sensitivity at 8 ohms. The Jolida handled the C7's extremely well in both HT & 2 channel. Now enter the AAD 2001's & the Jolida just couldn't power them well enough for my listening needs. I also have a NAD T773 receiver that runs the center & rears. If I didn't change speakers I would still be loving the Jolida. My room is 13x32 & is a rather large room to fill. The AAD's w/ the A500 sound incredible. Plenty of power to fill the room & then some. The Jolida isn't meant for that type of power requirements.

Thunder18, The rack ears aren't removeable. In fact they are actually part of the heat sinks. But I'll tell you what, they look very impressive stacked & fit just fine in my entertainment center. Me personally I don't find that to be a problem. Your needs might be different.

Rollinrocker, to answer your other guestion. no I never had the pleasure of listening to a Krell or Mark Levinson amp. I did however have a Hagel amp home for a few days for listening, 300X2 - $5,000. Ouch!!! I'll keep the A500's, thank you very much. As I am posting here I am listening to some incredible sounding music. VERY, VERY, VERY pleased w/ the A500's

A third channel A500 might not be too long off. As far as pics go I would love to but I am a computer idiot, don't have a clue on how to post pics. Sorry about that. Wanna give me some instructions?

Thanks for the answer pearsall001. In light of your review I still may go ahead and purchase 1 or 2 of these amps.

No doubt these are superb amplifiers( according to extensive 3rd party measurements ), however it should be noted that it does not output 500 watts. 360 watts @ 0.05% THD or 440 watts @ 1% would be more accurate figures.

so the a500's are at par with that Hagel amp in performance?

I'm just quoting what's in Behringer's owner's manual - 4ohms/230 watts, 8ohms/160 watts, Mono-bridged operation: 8ohms/500 watts. Either way we're not far off. Bottom line is these are outstanding amps w/ plenty of dynamic power & finess!!! For only $180. somebody please slap me to wake me up. Nah! I'm not dreaming!! as far as comparing the A500 to the Hagel amp, I can honestly say that the Hagel sounded superb! Then again the A500 also sounds superb! If you took them both out to the wood shed the A500 would put a $4,820. whooping on the Hagel - IMO!
