2 Bare wires into 1 spring clip?

Would it be possible to connect 2 speakers to each spring clip on a stereo system. It is bare wire spring clip connectors. Would it damage either the speakers or the unit?

I got a warranty replacement on my unit so now I have two sets of speakers. Might be nice to have a set behind and a set in front i was thinking.

Please advise.

no guarantees either way.

Even if you manage to fit in two wires into each terminal, there's always the possibility that your unit won't be able to handle the lowered impedance and added current draw adding a second set of speakers would cause.

Theoretical Draw

Ok. I see.

I really dont know so much about electricity and its factors.

I can fit two sets of wires in each spring clip. I tested two but didnt switch on. Also like you say maybe it would work with one extra but the whole lot plugged in might fry it.

Would it then be possible to calculate a theoretical draw for the total of all the speakers put togethor and cross compare this with the output of the unit?

Which figures am i using the wattage / ohms / amps?

And would this calculation give a reasonable judgement either way?

Thanks
Ian

...are generally designed to work as...well...for lack of better words, designed...They may not have what are considered standard speaker impedances...5 and 6 ohm figures are not uncommon...even using nominal 8 ohm units alone may compromise the amp section...

And the power ratings are really out there...The FTC method for power ratings are specified as xxxWatts RMS per channel @8Ohms, both channels driven, freq response 20Hz-20kHz with <.05% THD...The unreasonably huge numbers specified for this unit are probably derived using different parameters which numerically squeeze out every ounce of spec that they possibly can in an effort to sell a competitive product...

There are specs for Watts of music power, instantaneous peak power...@ EIAJ or DIN ratings...into odd impedances...measured at 1000Hz...one channel driven with 10% distortion...Once you start dividing those Watts by these over-hyped "multipliers" you are in reality left with very little usable power output...The there's the problem of actual delivered current...and don't forget, and while I don't mean to denigrate, this is really a glorified boom-box; there are separate power amps that don't deliver those kind of power ratings (470Watts???)

So whether you wire your four speakers (2+2) in series or parallel, they will most likely present a load to the SONY it's not going to like...at the very least the sound will suffer and you may not be able to play it very loud...worst case is the acrid odor of ozone when it start's to fry...
