2 4 channel amps vs 1 8 channel amp

Is there any issue to having 2 4-channel amps as opposed to 1 8 channel amp? It turns out to be slightly cheaper. Would it be an issue if there were more, say 3 4-channel amps (to do 11.1)?

Thanks

The more power supplies, the better. Ideally, each channel should have it's own power transformer and power supply to feed it.

Yeah, the fewer the channels per chassis, the better.

For example, a mono-block is ideal. Next is a stereo amp (2ch per chassis).

If you get 8 mono-block amps, that would be ideal.:D

I would ammend the above with ALL ELSE BEING EQUAL, AND SOUND BEING THE ONLY CRITERIA... 2x4ch > 1x8ch.

Obviously, a better 8-channel amp is superior to two inferior 4-channel amps; similarly, cost and space to hold them and "I hate lifting that 8ch it's too heavy" all come into play.

So what they've said is true... with some caviats :D

Thanks!

That sounds good. The 4 channel amp is by the same manufacturer so I guess the quality would be about the same. I hadn't thought about the weight issue so that's something to take into account.

Thanks again!
