? #2 ----2nd zone hook-up

Ok so i have a denon 888 and it has a 2zone capability however the 2nd zone isn't a direct speaker connect but rather a red/white output.
Ideally i would like to use zone 2 to run my inwalls in the familyroom and 2 outdoors on the patio ( i was thinking with an A/B switch so i can turn the patio off when not outside)
I'm assuming this means that it is 2 zone capable but zone 2 is not amp'd?
what would i need to do in order to get the set-up that i need and still keep it fairly simple and affordable?>

WOW thats WAY helpful! NOT....
have you read that thing?

Is this one of those forums that only answers each others questions and if you don't know everything about HT (or think u do) then you're not worthy or a real response to any questions?

I only ask this because i have two threads on here asking two questions that i would think are basic for all you "PRO's" and yet no one is willing to help out.

Hang on a minute and I lookat your manual and get you a better answer. off the top the zone 2 should be powered and the red (right) white(left) are just RCA jacks. Just a minute i i will provide you and answer SIR ;)

First you shouldnt have two threads here on the same topic, second the page clearly outlines your question, is that not a real response? your words "I'm assuming this means that it is 2 zone capable but zone 2 is not amp'd", and I pointed out where in your manual the setup info is, do you want me to parrot for you:p Stick around and you will see the forum is helpful, draw snap judgement and see what happens then,

enjoy

Zone 2 - page 30 explained

Bascially you have to set up Zone 2 from your menu under "2. Manual Setup"

The options allow you some volume levels and protection on Zone 2.

The white and red RCA connectors can be connecte to wiring. There are adapters example: http://www.antonline.com/p_AH41-NX_277983.htm

First black box 1 Lch is the Left Channel Level ( white RCA connector). Sound is measure in dB levels; each 3dB is a doubling in sound level

Send black box 2 Rch is the right channel elvle ( red RCA connector).

I would start at 0 db; if the sound is too loud on Zone 2 when you Zone 1 is what you like then increase by 3 dB. Vic Versa if the sound on zone 2 is too low when zone 1 is at a compfot level then increase in 3dB increments until the sound in zone 2 is what you desire.

black box 3 Volume limit; If the speakers in zone 2 are smaller than your main zone 1 speakers you can set a volume limit and protect the zone 2 speakers in case zone 1 is turned up loud. If zone2 are substantially smaller you can set intiailly at -10dB

Black box 4 power on level; when you first turn on zone 2 do you want a preset level or remember the last level? I would either set "last" or "-10dB" to start with. If you set -10 db and can't hear then increase in incrtements of 10 dB.

black box 5 Mute level; when you turn on Mute "zone 2" how much sound do you still want to receive. Most like you want 'full" setting. If you mute a zone you want no sound.

Amp assign has to be set to zone2 to use zone 2 independently.

Sorry if this isn't clear enough, best I can do, I tried to help :)

Zone 2 pre-outs would require an external amplifier to drive the speakers in zone 2. But the image of the manual (if it is the correct model) shows that the receiver is a typical 7.1 receiver that can power zone 2 directly.

If you use the pre-outs and an external amp, you'd be able to have 7.1 in the main zone and stereo in zone 2 at the same time. If you let the receiver power zone 2 directly, then you can only have 5.1 in the main zone when zone 2 is active because the receiver uses 2 of its amps for zone 2.

To drive 2 pairs of speakers off the single zone 2 output, you need to wire them in parallel with impedance matching volume controls or go with your original idea of using a speaker selector.
