I have a pair of Ascend Acoustics 340 SE's and a HSU VTF-3 MKIII Subwoofer on the way im curious about how I should set this up. Since I won't have a 5.1 set-up yet, should I just connect my DVD player, XBOX 360, HD Cable Box, etc. to the reciever by left and right analog cables, or should I still connect them by a digital connection(toslink)? Would it be best to connect them by a digital connection so the reciever(Yamaha RX-V1600) does all the "decoding" and just put the reciever in "stereo moe" or something like that? Thanks!

Use a digital connection so you have bass management. For movies this is essential.

So say if I have a universal DVD Player(SACD/DVD-A) and want to use my 2.1 System to play the various STEREO only SACD's out there. Since SACD can only be sent through analog should I run the normal left and right analog audio cables from my player to the reciever or would i have to run it from the multi-channel outputs on the player? Remeber this is for just the single layer stereo SACD's. And this probally is s stupid question but stereo only SACDs will work on a 2.1 system right? You dont have to have a 5.1 set-up, am i right? Thanks!

Yes it will work and yes you need the multi-channel connections.
