you know i think ill just pull the 5.1s from my parnets and get them something that is around 40-90 dollars... they dont listen to music much and sound sticks or z2300 look good right about now.

---- Scratch that---
ill get the z2300 for my house... what do you guys think of z2300?

If you like massive amounts of bass their good. For multimedia speakers though they weren't terrible by any means, but the sub does over power the mains during normal listening.

I prefer the Klipsch Promedia system over the logitech.

If you don't need lots of bass, you could also look at a powered monitor like the M-Audio speakers. They won't have bass like a 2.1 system, but the mids and highs will sound better.

If you can afford it, having a subwoofer is a world of a difference, I think the Klipshe would be the ideal buy though.. but I'm not entirely sure.

I had to send my Klipsch promedia system in 3 times for warranty before I got rid of that garbage.

I would recommend the M-Audio monitors if you ever want to go 2.0 (not sure about the Behringers recommended above, they are probably good too). That is what I have for my laptop because I didn't want a sub. They sound great (I have the 30's), and I can move them around easily enough without having to move an amp or sub.

good computer monitors

wow, good timing...i just finished researching this for the last couple of months.. i wanted to buy a good set of compt.spkrs.
after reading about getting a set of monitors ,instead of compt.spkrs, i started going around to all the music stores in town, etc.
i checked out the M-Audio,,a40s,,good, behringers,,a couple of different models...great,high price...KRK rokits 6and 8? i believe .awesome, but very high price...finally after more research settled on the AUDIOENGINE 5 400$ and are super loud and clean..not bad size, not too big..lots of bass and
have a built in amp so you could technically play them anywhere with a plug in and a i pod...

I had the Klipsch Promedia 2.1, then later their 5.1 Ultra and enjoyed them a lot for what they were - multimedia speakers. I'd rate them as excellent for rock and gaming, but perhaps a bit too harsh for the Jazz that I enjoy. Of course me doing a better job of balancing the satellites and sub might have solved that problem. Anyway most of my non-audiophile friends complained that the Promedia blew away their living room systems. I would avoid the downgraded GMX version.

Note: Klipsch did have a problem with the BASH amps used in the Ultra but the run of bad amps was brief and later production was pretty good.

The old 2.1 setup still lives in my garage, and this week I finally replaced the Klipsch 5.1 setup with an old receiver, two Energy bookshelf speakers and a small subwoofer.

The logitech z-2300 is the 2.1 version of the z-5500. It'll sound basically the same but without the rear speakers.
