hello, i currently have two definitive technology promonitor60 and a def tech prosub60, running off a marantz sr5600 (they were part of my previous home theater setup).

my source is my mac, with an optical link to the marantz.

i'm considering replacing the monitors with two pioneer sp-bs22-lr, figuring i could get a bigger punch.

well and my left speakers has some distortion, it seems a bit broken.

any thoughts on this ?

will greatly appreciate any suggestions.

Punch, to me at least (and I'm wrong quite often, so take this fwiw), means high dynamic capability in the ~50-150 hz or so range. That requires speakers that can move some air. If "punch" is what you're after, I'm not sure the smallest Pioneers are the right tool for the job. Can your budget and room allow you to kick it up a notch size wise?

try to swap speakers (left and right) and see if distortion follows
if it does - bad speakers - if it doesn't - bad cable/amp channel

As Ski2 mentioned - for more punch you need workout sub more - try adjusting crossover to 90-100hz and add some volume on the sub

@BoredSysAdmin: ok, i will try switching speakers as well as adjusting crossover and see how it goes

If it were my ducats I would explore the used market, consider a DIY kit, or visit Guitar Center for some active monitors. If the Marantz has pre-outs, you can pick up a pair of JBL lsr2328 powered monitors for $250. They are all around excellent speakers, which also happen to be rather punchy. They would make even healthy Def Techs sound a tad anemic in comparison.

Your not going to get/have much punch with them baby Definitive speakers.

The Pioneer speakers are nice, with some good bass for their size -3 db around 65 hz >
you can use a 80/90hz crossover with them

However the Cambridge Audio S30 speakers are better - and they really do have some punch.
They have some real nice bass for their size
CAMBRIDGE AUDIO S30 4½" 2-way Bookshelf Speakers Pair Dark Oak | Accessories4less

I have owned them, and note this review
