To take advantage of the new formats . . .

Will require several things that are not currently available.
* A source suporting the new format (HD-DVD or Blu-ray)
* Media encoded in the new format.
* A receiver with HDMI 1.3? that supports the new format.
OR
* 7.1 channel analog inputs on the receiver and decoding and good bass management on the source.

As the new HD players and media become available they will probably be supported initially by the receivers analog inputs (no decoding necessary on the receivers) and eventually over HDMI when the standards catch up.

Ya, I realize that there is no source material yet in those formats. I was just wondering whether that was the 1st receiver that offered that decoding and if it was in anticipation of HD-DVD rolling out or something. I also thought it was strange that Monster would be leading the pack on this one.

DD + and DTS HD can't be carried via S/PDIF? Too high a bitrate or something?
