SINCE CHANGING FROM REL STAMPED TO NEW REL T7I these are connected as before but now the rel causes the quad 57 speaker to shut down and on power light off ,disconnect the rel sub, speaker is powered up ok. ...... the 57s output speaker - terminal is connected to earth ,so it must be to do with earthing ..any ideas with connecting sub up with the quads.. the 3 wire connection worked fine with the old sub but not the new 7i sub,.. the first call to rel was not helpful.

The only thing I got out of that is you’re having problems since adding a new subwoofer. Can’t decipher your troubleshooting process – have no idea what earth terminals have to do with a subwoofer connection or what “three wire” means – but there is no way that the sub could be causing the problem with the Quads, especially if you disconnected it. The EL is notorious for being a difficult speaker to run and maintain, so look elsewhere.

Line level signals should have no such effect, you might want to get an electrically knowledgeable person to double check things.

on high level cable there are 3 coloured wire 2 go to + 0f speaker the other goes to - of speaker ...the quads speaker output terminal are so that the negative is connected to earth. that is why you cant use power amps that are bridged .. eg musical fidelity high powered amps,, the earth would s/c the amps and damage them.. the rel stampead as failed therefore replaced with rel t7i. .connected the same way as old one it worked fine for 15 years . ,with the new sub ,same connections s before the mains power neon goes off and speaker doesn't operate . disconnect sub power light on on 57s ,music plays .the mains of the quads goes to a step up transformer the neon light is connected to the mid voltage point of the primary. the secondary has a diode/capacitor ladder network that increases voltage across the plates to 5000 volts cheers and thanks

It would probably require a joint meeting between the Quad and REL engineers to sort out the problem you’re having. Bottom line, ditch the high-level connection and go with line-level.

That strange Rel connection method probably at root but the description is still confusing...
