15" RE SE question

Hey guys I'm new to this site. Not sure if i'm posting in the right section. I have a 15" RE SE that I would like to use in my HT. I was recommended a crown XLS 202 to push it. Is that a good amp?

Crown makes good amps, but you will get more bang for your buck with a Behringer amp.

QSC, Crown and Behringer are all "pro" amps and should all work for what you need. You can find them all over the place: http://www.parts-express.com/pe/showdetl.cfm?Partnumber=248-746 Musician's Friend, Guitar Center, etc... will have them as well.

I run my 15" Tempest off a Rythmik Audio plate amp and it works great.

Glocks could be referring to either the Beringher A500, which is in a similar price range of the XLS 202, but I'd suggest a used Behringer EP1500 or EP2500.

If you prefer new, I'd recommend the replacement for the EP1500, which is the EP2000.

All but the A500 are going to be a bit more pricey than the Crown (though the link for the EP1500 I found was in the same price range, which I'd recommend), but will give you much more clean headroom or power than the XLS 202... -TD

So the sub is a DVC 4ohms. Which the crown makes 600RMS @ 8ohms. From the reading i've done there are some people saying the crown doesn't like to be setup @ 8ohms. Anyone knows if that is true?

Also i am using a Pioneer VSX-1019AH-K receiver.

I like the amps but I would be able to used them. As I can only wired the sub to 2 ohms or 8 ohms.

You can use the Behringer amps at 8 ohms, you may want a EP4000.

The Crown XlS amps dont mind 8 ohm. For your driver I would consider a bigger amp than the 202.

Have you determined if the sub will be of any practical use for a HT application by modeling it first?

You may want to try this prior to spending your hard earned cash on an amplifier for said driver.
