12V Trigger Help

I am having a tough time figuring out where I went wrong.....

I have my Onk 805 and bought a 2 channel amp (No 12V trigger for auto on)to power my front speakers with. So I have my amp hooked up and the amp works great. I decided to add a Monster Power strip into the mix that has switchable power for some plugs that works of a 12V trigger. So I got my power strip and hooked it up. However my reciever now only appears to have a 12V trigger for my 2nd zone. So am I correct???? So basically I wasted my money on the Monster Power strip, because my Onkyo 805 has no 12V trigger that can be used to auto switch on the amp via the power strip.

Am I missing something here.......

BTW...My power strip is the Monster HTS 1000MKIII

Essentially, you are correct. You might have to:

1) Return the Monster power strip, and:

2) Purchase one of these instead:

I've used one in the past when my gear didn't have a 12V trigger.

Oh wait ... this just in ...

You could also buy what is essentially referred to as a "wall wart". This is one of those power adapters that supplies 12V of power and has a mini-plug (1/8") at the end. You could plug the mini plug into your Monster power supply and then plug the other end into the switched outlet on the back of your Onkyo 805. This should be the equivalent of a 12V trigger.

If you're not using the Zone 2 inputs, all you need to do is assign the triggered output to one of them. It will do nothing to the main zone operation, in any way. Then, you can use one of these (or something like it):

That's what turns on my EP2500. Works great and makes a mean clicking sound when it kicks on.

So I assume I can configure that 12V trigger in my setup menu on my 805?

Have you looked at my power strip, it has a 12V input trigger on it, am I missing something?? Does the power strip not work off my 12V trigger to turn on my switched outlets? Or does the power strip send a 12V trigger out to turn on something else....There is not really any detail about this in the Manual. Maybe I need to contact Monster.....

I looked earlier for a trigger but didn't see one on the one you bought. If it has one, just use a mono 3.5mm cable (stereo will work, too)- Radio Shack has them in different lengths. According to the manual, it turns on when Zone 2 is turned on and isn't programmable but if you're not using Zone 2, that's OK.

The receiver will send 12VDC to whatever needs to be triggered and it's low current, so there's no need to worry about it.

BTW- it's on pg 102 of the manual.

I'm in the same boat with an Onkyo 707 trying to trigger an apc power filter.

I don't use zone 2 for anything so I added turning on/off zone 2 to my remote control's startup/shutdown macros.

Works perfectly with one small problem.

If you run the Audyssey set up the system disables zone 2 and you cannot manually override it. On my system I have to unplug the trigger cable from the apc in order to get the amp to start. Not a big problem since I rarely run the Audyssey setup, but just be aware of it.

No setup- it turns the trigger on when Zone 2 turns on. I didn't see a trigger input on that power strip, although the description indicates that it has one. It usually looks like a 3.5mm jack. The power strip (or whatever) needs a 12VDC trigger and as long as 12VDC is there, it stays on.
