11' wide x 14' long x 7' high made of drywall.

PVC tile with carpet on top on the floor; no acoustic treatment.

Would like to buy used to maximise funds and will spend up to $450 (enough to buy a new SVS 10").

I don't want to "oversub" and I will be listening to music and HT.

Am I going to large with thinking about the 10" SVS and stuff in that category? What would that budget get me that is better for my needs in the used market?

Thanks.

Sony SA-W3800 Performance Line 15" 200-Watt Subwoofer for around $200 at Amazon.
I have the 150 watt version (4 years old) and its fills my bedroom nicely. I know people bash
Sony subs, but they are great for the price. Dual 15" setup for $450 not to shabby.

MY 2 CENTS.

I'd take the PB-10NSd over the Sony.

Uh... yeah, I'd have to agree on that one... ;)

First rule, there's no such thing as "too much subwoofer", so if you have a budget and can afford the high end of it, the best you can afford will provide you with the best performance for your money.

The PB10-NSD would suit you very well in that sized room. I'd also suggest keeping an eye on their overstock page to see if you can score one for even cheaper.

HSU, Dayton and AV123 should all be able to offer a solid subwoofer in that price range as well. Lastly, if you have any DIY skills & modest tool/power tool collection, the best bang for your buck would be building your own... -TD

HSU VTF Mk3 seems very good value at $499 + shipping (the limit of my budget).

Is this worth spending a little bit more money to buy? Hsu seems a very well respected make.

I know that it is all down to listening to a speaker but being as I can't without ordering it I am reliant on your wisdom!

Thanks.

HSU makes VERY nice subs, in the few weeks that I have been looking for subs, they are one of the main names that keeps popping up.

Also, you could checkout Outlaws subs (the compact looks great). From what I can gather, they are designed in part by Dr. Hsu. Its also on sale for $349 (Has 25 more watts and $50 less)! I have the Plus (just got it yesterday), and it dominates anything Ive heard for the price.

You cant go wrong with HSU or Outlaw, both are very good and well respected. With either of those subs, you can expect strong bass performance for your size room.

Bite the bullet and good luck :D

Captain,

thanks for the response.

My problem with 'bullet biting' is I analyze everything to death then resurrect it and kill it once more :D

Here I am just about to splash out on a Hsu when I read about the Epik Valor which has very good musical performance (something I would like to have as I am 70/30 music/HT)).

It is a little over budget but maybe worth the stretch. It's been difficult to find reviews on it though.

I may just take the chance

Just an FYI, the SVS B-Stock page has been updated w/some candidates. The SB-12 they have is a nice option in a smaller form factor, great looking, too... -TD

The Valor looks superb, They are back ordered at this time though, so if you dont mind waiting, I would think that it would be an excellent choice!
