Hello everyone,
I planning to spend $1.2k to build a 2.1 for now and then add to 5.1 later on
It will be used on blu rays and not much else.

I'm looking for speakers around $600 a pair
subs around $250
and receiver around $300

these are some of the items I skimmed through and picked without deep researching.
none of them are fixed (must get).
please help me adjust and build a nice 2.1 thank you

PS: I have cables, plugs etc available so all $1200 goes to gears.

Speakers:
Polk Audio Monitor70 $199 each@ NewEgg
JBL 180 $188 each @Amazon , (only 1 left but I can wait, if they ever restock)
Definitive Bipolar BP8B $199 each @NewEgg( sale ends today 10/15/2012)

Receiver:
Sony STRDH520 $208 @Amazon

Sub woofer:
BIC America F12 $200 @Amazon

How big is your room and how loud you expect to play on this system?
(ps: I'm not big of most of your choices - you can do much better)

$1200... Im not a fan of anything you picked, I dont really like Sony avr's either...

If you are the type to always upgrade...

Onkyo 709 $450 {has preouts so you can add separate amps later}

HSU STF2 sub $362 {great sub for the money, and you can add a second for more bass later}

And a pair of Ascend Acoustic 170 se's $375 {these are really nice speakers, can use for surrounds after when you buy 3- 340se's for your fronts, or keep these as fronts and add a 340 center and 200s for surrounds} Ascend is one of them companies that has been around a while and sells a speaker that performs well beyond its price point...

If you are not an "upgrader"..
Denon 1712 $250

Ascend 340 fronts $600

Same sub as above {i really like this sub}...

I shopped around a lot when choosing my system and went with HSU and Ascend for speakers, they are far beyond anything else in its price range...

Hello guys,
thanks for pointing out and giving suggestions.
I ended up buying the Klipsch WF-35.
Newegg sale price was $269 each, hopefully it will be great for the price:p.

now I will need a receiver, and then wait for a awesome sub deal, center and the rest will follow.

Thanks again for helping

by the way I heard the WF-35 are power efficient?
so does that mean I can save some money from buying a relative cheaper receiver? any suggestions?

Find a nice Yamaha Aventage series receiver. They may be more than your budget, but you'll get more bang for the buck.
