12' x 13'

Hi fellas,

The stats on my new Home Theater room (in my basement) are 12' x 13', w/painted walls, 8' high ceiling, and new berber carpet throughout.

These following components I am leaning toward purchasing in February are:

Panasonic TH-50PHD8UK (50" Plasma)
Yamaha RX-2500 (A/V Receiver)
Xbox 360 (CD/DVD/Games)
Aperion 533-PT Towers (Fronts)
Aperion 533-VAC (Center)
Aperion "NEW" In-walls (Rears)

I have done the research and understand all of these components to be of high quality. My question is, given the dimensions and setup of my room, will they all be extremely effective and appropriate or simply too much (overkill). More specifically, are a 50" plasma and the Aperion Front Powered Towers too big or overwhelmeing (audibly or visually) in a 12' x 13' room (and I'm not talking appearance)?

I am hopeful that they will work well...

However, please share your honest opinions!

Thanx in advance,

-Tiffany

This system would offer a far greater visceral impact with movies. Primarily due to the sub. The speakers are new on the market but SVS is one of the finest manufactures of subs and these speakers are supposed to be stellar. Especially considering there price.

Also due to the size of your room smaller monitors will image better for music and movies. While offering better placement flexibility as well. I also kinda feel in walls limit things a bit in flexibility of placement and sound.

Just my 2 cents. Hope this helps.

I agree.

Bookshelfs would fair better in that small of a room. For proper surround effect, the speakers have to point at you. Inwalls wouldn't image as well depending on how close you are to them. They would work at back rear surrounds, but not 5.1 surrounds.

You can get a great system from www.ascendacoustics.com

Mains - CBM170's
Center - CBM340
Rears - CBM170's
Sub - Hsu STF-1 or greater.

This setup is $1148 with $60 for shipping. You can go even greater and get all 340 fronts for $1368 with $66 for shipping. If you want a bigger subwoofer(STF-2), the first system would be $1248 with $73 for shipping and the second system is $1468 with $79 for shipping.

This is the calculator from their website

See what you want and it will tell you the price. The SVS system is also top notch with the speakers and subwoofer having ruler flat FR's.

If the equipment meets or exceeds your expectations with regard to aesthetics, cost, specification etc, then, with one exception, there is no reason that you should be dissapointed; don't expect your system to sound identical to when you listened to it in the shop due to the differences in room acoustics of the (more than likely) two differently shaped/sized/furnished rooms. Note though, that this applies to any speakers, not just to those you have set yourself on buying.

It is kind of small space you are putting this in.
Since you are not concerned with the appearance, I doubt your planned system will be an issue there. You do have control over the volume:D
Be sure to level match all channels. There should be helpful guidance here at the site on this. You need internal or external DVD and an spl meter from Radio Shack.

For the most part I like that setup. Your screen size is not overwhelmingly big. For a theater perception you will want to sit at least 6’ from the screen.

The powered towers will work very well for music, but I also feel that they will not provide the visceral impact you desire for movies and gaming, especially in a basement with a concrete foundation. There are very few powered towers that can compete with a standalone sub. An alternative may be to go with the 632 bookshelf and a sub that meets your requirements.
