Can someone please explain this statment to me " as with all the current 1080p tv's the sony will not accept a 1080p input due to unresolved content issues". So when HD dvd launchs or broadcast networks broadcast in 1080p what will these tv's do down convert to 1080I and then upconvert to 1080p?

A sony rep told me that they are planning on releaseing a Hardware and firmware upgrade kit for the current batch of 1080p SXRD sets, that will allow them to input a 1080p signal.

Dont take my word as gospel I am just repeating what I was told in an email from the Sony support team when I asked them a similar question.

you won't ever see 1080p come threw cable too high bandwith. Only use will be hd dvd or blu ray whoever wins.

Except of course, 1080/24p, which is the proposed standard, uses 20% LESS bandwidth at the same compression rate, than 1080i/30 does.

Thanks for the replys. I went and checked out the mits wd-52627 1080p today and asked them if it would handle a native 1080p signal and was told "yes over firewire". I could not confirm this on there website so I e-mailed there tech support for some info. we will see if they responed.
man that tv looks great, better then the sony 1080p I think. The colors on the sony were overly saturated.
