Need Help Deciding Between Samsung LCDs

I'm in the market for a new LCD HDTV and I've been researching for months. Originaly I had my heart settled on the Samsung LNS4092D. And then I discovred that the Blu Ray movies I wanted to view on my new TV were 1080p to my great suprise this apparently top of the line LCD TV was not. :( My dreams were shattered, what was the point of blu ray movies if I couldn't display them in 1080p the "gold standard". So I began shopping once again. I am a huge fan of Samsung LCDs so it didn't take long for me to once again settle my heart on the Samsung LN-S4095D wich is the cheapist Samsung modle that supports 1080p. Now I've been reading every LCD TV review I can get my hands on and the one thing I haven't been able to figure out is...do I need 1080p? Perhaps need isn't the right word. Is there a noticable quality difference between 720p and 1080p when viewing a 40 inch modle? Or am I simply splitting hairs here?

Now I have my heart set on LCD not DLP or Plasma (I also plan on doing alot of gaming with this TV) so my question is, for the 32-40 inch range will I regret in a year or so getting a 720p TV instead of a 1080p modle? Like I said I do plan on hi-def gaming and blu ray/hd dvd movies almost out of the box.

Why are the Samsung Contrast ratios so much higher? They can't realy be that high when compared to other models.

I went and looked at the store today but unfortunatly I could not compare them as they were not displaying 1080p material.

1080p vs 720p on a 40" display is not likely going to yield a noticable difference if you are sitting at distances about about 7 or 8 feet from the display. Or, at least it shouldn't.

1080p represents about a 100% gain in resolution, but all this does is allow you to sit about 33% closer to the screen before you start to see the same image artifacts that you would see on a 720p display. For a 40" model that will put you ideally about 4 or 5 feet from the screen at 1080p and about 7 feet or more with a 720p screen. So, where are you sitting?

I think 1080p in displays is nice, but it is a bit overhyped. The real gold mine will sit well above 50" and front projection is where 1080p will really shine.

As always, opinions will vary but my 65" 1080p DLP set shows a noticeable difference in image detail. Maybe it's the size of the display. It's a bit like putting on glasses that have just a minor correction - everything looked fine before, but now there's a crispness that I never realized wasn't there.

I have a 65" 1080p plasma (Panasonic TH-65PF9UK) and 37" 1080p LCD (Sharp).

Unless you are using it for a computer or are sitting 3 feet away, I don't think you will notice any difference on a 40".

At 65", you will absolutely see difference unless your seting distance is too far away. I can sit 5' away from my 65" 1080p and see no loss in resoultion. At my normal seating distance of 8'-10', the benefits of 1080p and high def formats are abundantly clear.

I went to the store today and looked at some displays. I decided that the LNS4095D was the TV for me...it just looked so amazingly clear. So 1080p for me.

Be weary of making decisions based on in-store models, almost all of them have all of the picture settings terribly wrong and can look much, much better once properly calibrated.
