Hey guys.

I have a question about 1080p.

Simply put, Do I need it. The next TV I buy is to mainly watch sports. ESPN HD outputs in 720p. So do my local stations.

So does a signal upscaled from 720p or 1080i to 1080p look better than a true native 720p signal?

I dont think I have to tell anyone 1080p TV's are considerably more expensive.

Do you "need" it? :D Nope. Will you want it? Maybe. How big of a screen are you looking to get, and how far away will you be sitting? Broadcast TV is one thing, but you may want to add an HD source later on (like Blu-ray or HD-DVD).

The Phillips 42PFL7432D.

And the Westinghouse TX-42F430S.

Both are 1080p and 42 inches... Man that Phillips looks sexy.

I have a Blue Ray Player, well, A PS3.

As shown in that article, and the follow up post in the forums, it is ALL about how far away you will be sitting vs. the size of the display, combined with the source material - and a heap of how good your eyesight really is.

Bottom line for most people is that 720p or 768p is fine for them.

I'm likely going to get a 1365x768 plasma as my next one because the price is better and Pioneer plasmas have better color, image processing, and contrast levels than most other displays on the market.

Go cheaper, but get the better contrast/color/processing.
