Today on December 14 it is exactly 100 years since Roald Amundsen and his men Helmer Hanssen, Sverre H. Hassel, Olav Bjaaland and Oscar Wisting as the first men ever set foot on the South Pole, this was an unprecedented heroic effort that is still hard to grasp, this effort has not been repeated by anyone until four Norwegians earlier this year went the same
2000 miles on skis.
Due to this success was an extreme amount of planning and preparation, they were going part of this route earlier to make depots of food and to research and make important lessons...
This is among the greatest feats in mankind ever....
The first men to the South Pole - Roald Amundsen, Olav Olavson Bjaaland, Helmer Hanssen, Sverre H. Hassel and Oscar Wisting.
The first men at the South Pole commemorate the occasion by erecting a tent with their national (Norwegian) flag flying. They leave in the tent a letter and a few supplies. Lightweight for the time, the tent was canvas with bamboo poles to keep it erect.
