10,000 BC does well over weekend

The much anticipated release did just what the studio expected.

"MARCH 10 | VARIETY BOX OFFICE REPORT: Warner Bros.' 10,000 BC speared a decent-sized aud as the prehistoric epic easily took the top spot with $35.7 million in a quiet frame in which no pics exceeded expectations.
Disney's College Road Trip drove to a so-so bow of $14 million, while Will Ferrell laffer Semi-Pro continued to miss the hoop, falling a steep 62% in its second frame.

Though hopes for the Rolland Emmerich-helmed 10,000 BC rose as high as $40 million-plus, the pic's perf ended up right in line with studio expectations. No one expected 10,000 BC to come close to the $71 million debut mounted by 300 over the same weekend last year.

Looks too cartoony to me...I will probably wait for rental.

I've been hearing mediocre things from my friends with similar tastes to mine. I probably won't bother seeing or renting it.

I enjoyed this movie more than I thought I would. I give it 3 & 1/2 stars out of 5.

I was really hoping to see this flick, but I just noticed a Tomatometer of 7%! (Not often you see a T-meter that low.) And a user Tomatometer of 37%! Not very encouraging. Looks like I'll be watching this one at home . . .

cheers,

What is a Tomatometer? If it is a critics gauge then I can ignore it as I liked some movies the critics hated last year such as Transformers, The Last Legion, and Golden Compass.

MUDSHARK, the Tomatometer is indeed a guage of critics' reactions. Check out rottentomatoes.com -- I use it all the time to help determine which movies to check out and which to bypass.

The 7% means that 7% of critics gave it a positive review (6 or more stars out of 10). And the user T-meter is the measure of users of that site: ordinary, movie-loving people, not critics. That's the measure I usually look at.

Give those guys at rottentomatoes a break. They are pretty mean on their reviews. I take it as it is. But when there is a good review, the movie is a dang good one (Michael Clayton in mind - boy that movie was a bomb).

Still, it might be worth it to check the film out -- just to see if Stratman has a cameo in it or something. ;)
