Just a couple quick questions-looking for some advice. My equipment is currently in a walk-in closet adjacent to my bonus room. I am playing with the idea of building a rack in the crawl space behind the closet and then placing the equipment so that only the face plate will be visible on the wall-(two reasons- greater flexibility with space in the closet, and easy access to the equip. throught the crawl space. The only problem is-the crawl space tends to get pretty hot during the summer days (North Carolina). Should I abandon this idea?

Unless you somehow isolate the additional area behind the closet, I'd abandon it. That area is very dusty and dust is another one of those things besides heat that really are not good for your gear.

+1 wat j_g said.

Unless you plan to finish the crawl space (somehow make it dust free) and create ventilation for heat dissipation...

Yes, as others have said, besides the dust is the heat. Why not place a thermometer there and see how hot it gets there. I bet it gets to 120F or more.
You certainly don't want your components operating in such hot environments, not even at 90F.
