1 Good Sub? 2 mid range?

Hello,

I have a dedicated movie room that is 15 feet long and 12 feet across.

I'm slowly over the years upgrading my system from where i started, a ho hum polk system, the TL1600 and a 7.1 yamaha avr. First thing i did was slowly upgrade the Polk TL1 Satellites to the TL3's. It was an improvement for sure.

Then the centre, also TL3, better still.

Then i started sniffing around for 2nd hand subs, and now have two Polk PSW10s in the front corners. Better base for sure, but not great.

Next, i added two more TL3's for 7.2, Fun!

Next, figured i needed ATMOS, bought the pioneer VSX elite LX-303 avr, Set up 5.2.4...Cool!

Next, after reading about ELAC, i grabbed, 2 Debut B6.2 bookshelf speakers, Nice!

Then the TL3 center sounded pretty weak.

So i grabbed the ELAC C6.2 center, Holy poop, the difference was laughable and i was finally able to lower my crossover below 80, Alright! now were talking.

The plan from here, i'm going to slowly replace all the TL3s that are currently serving as height and rear surrounds with the ELAC OW.42s.

This all make sense but finally here is my question. What do i do about the subs? I go in circles reading about what to do

Budget, around a 1000$. Again the room is 15x12. Do i get two ELAC 10"s. Will this be a lot better than the two polks?. The design and power say yes, however the frequency range appears to be similar.

Do i get one ELAC 12" or maybe even look for something as big as 15".

Not married to ELAC for subs just want to get this last part of the journey right.

Anyone have any thoughts?

Upgrading surrounds and other effects only speakers are a low-value proposition. If you like your L/C/R then sub should be next. your speakers and sub don't have to match. Elac subs are surely decent, but with HSU you will definitely get more bang for the buck. If your theater room is 12x15 and sealed, then $500-600 should be able to easily fill it with good bass. Getting two should allow you to have a wider sweet spot and easily position them.
If you choose to go with http://www.hsuresearch.com/products/vtf-2mk5.html DualDrive (2 subs) you'll have crazy bass. Your old Polk subs not even on the same bass planet.

Speaker company subs tend not to be too noteworthy. Polk particularly. Elac, don't really know but they're kinda new in the US at least but if Andrew Jones had a hand in them they might be decent. I'd look at sub specialists like SVS, Hsu, Rythmik, Power Sound Audio for starters. I'd still think dual subs as a better way of smoothing response at more seats, altho you may get one to do well enough. Duals at that budget I'd also think about DIY if you have the inclination....

HSU looks promising. Thanks for the advice.

One thing that scared me about the ELAC is that you could only adjust via a bluetooth app.

Seems to me, at some point an iOS will be updated and you won't be able to access your sub!
