Which would you prefer for 12 by 14 foot den music system utilizing Infinity Kappa 400 speakers (90 sensitivity 4-6 ohm ) and a budget of 1500-2000 for an integrated amplifier or separates?

I don't know about the sound of the other models but I have the NAD C372. I am driving epos ELS 3's with a powered sub. It is in a space which are just about the exact dimensions you have. It is serving as a 2 channel audio system and i am very happy with the results. From what I can tell the C372 is the C162 preamp and C272 combined in a single box. A nice little feature I like about the c372 is if you want to bypass the preamp and use the C372 as a dedicated amp you can do that.

You can also find a review below:

Thanks for the reply. I have a T-533 dvd-audio player that I have been very pleased with. I was hoping someone would chime in about the NAD amplifiers. Also, it is about the only good brand that could be bought locally. Here in East Central Florida about the only units available are from the mass manufacturers and a few custom Home Theatre intallers. One of them is an authorized NAD dealer so I may give them a call and see if they have some kind of a showroom for auditions (Unlikely). Otherwise, I may have to rely on reviews.

.....MudShark, working with $2000, I would suggest the $800 pre-amp of your choice, with a Crown K2 stereo amplifier.....

.....and MudShark, if you got a used McIntosh Pre-Amp, around the C-28 to C-31 range, to go with the K-Series amp, I assure you, you would have something....your speakers are efficient at 90, I think it was, and others will yell how could you need that many watts?....the Crown K-Series is excellent in ALL areas, I have found....your speakers would only get as loud as you choose, with clarity rare, from K-Series power....and I mean power....unbelievably clean, crisp, and bright......

.....edit....and thanks to WmAx, I'm working toward using the balanced inputs on the K2's I have....I think I'm going to go ahead and order elements for small cannons....and a Behringer 2496....I can swap things around to not have to get more power at this time....like somebody cares.....buncha' Neanderthals.....don't turn around and look.....

if you already have a receiver: 2000USD goes to Rotel RB1090!
if the 2000 USD is for both a receiver and amp: Rotel RB1080 (and buy whatever receiver that's 1000 USD: yammy 2500 maybe)

Mulester7: Thank you for the advice. Is the Crown suggestion really viable? I'm something of a neophyte to first rate stereo and am learning as I'm going along. 800 wpc into my 4 ohm Kappa's? Holy Cow! I had thought (obviously incorrectly) that Crown was intended for large dance halls and the like. Does the noise on these monsters make them undesireable for home use? Is there any other disadvantages versus the Adcom's/NAD's/Parasound's etc... The budget is a rough guide based my $1000 per speaker cost so a good pre-amp could still be done with that much of a discount on the Crown.

Like your avatar by the way. I could barely get the site to accept my Lightning animation.

I would take a look at Emotiva amps, great price and great quality.
