    speakers for a large room

After multiple road trips I found a pair of salon2 for 10k. Took my amps (sanders sound mono blocks) and they were driven nicely. Almost as nicely as the emm mono blocks the seller had. Stunned by the broadness of the soundstage. And unlike the Maggies, I can pump out dire straits to cure the...

    speakers for a large room

I was looking at the salk ss8 as well as the new ss9.5. A fellow who makes videos for this website, Matt Poes, noted that he was impressed with the dispersion of the BMR monitor. These use the RAAL 64-10 tweeter. This same tweeter is used in the ss8. However the newer ss9.5 seems to have a...

    speakers for a large room

I’ve fallen to a rabbit hole. Now revel f228e and Salk 9.5 are on the table too. But with used salon2 available for 10k I need to audition. Unfortunately Salk and jtr have no showrooms in Boston

    speakers for a large room

Elsewhere has recommended Harbeth 40.2. But those go for 18k. Has anyone actually heard those?

    speakers for a large room

The budget is 10k. I have seen a couple of revel salon2 or ultima studio2 (used) and these are the upper limit of price. The boss thinks less imposing objects than maggies are needed. Adding boxes (more speakers) was floated but promptly torpedoed. Half this big room has a small sofa and a chair...

    speakers for a large room

Although the room is 45' x 15' , it is separated into an eating area, a sitting area, and a listening area(15'x15'). However, the ceiling is slanted and high and the separations between the areas is achieved with partitions only. The listening area is well damped with curtains and thick carpet...

    THOR RAGNAROCK a must see

I dont get it. The blurb makes it sound like another marvel comic with a dumbed down plot - thor vs the hulk? - and sensory assault with super duper cgi. I am still waiting for a casablanca sequel. Maybe there's a future in that - sequels to old classic movies?

    I'm battling Testicular Cancer

Best wishes for a speedy recovery. I hope you did sperm banking before too much chemo. Dont forget your vitamins too and extra fluids as the effects of chemo are not kidney friendly.

Hi res version of SONOS: devialet vs bluesound

Bummer about pandora. I also would miss qobuz which sonos supports. Maybe I need a music server on my nas that can downsample to sonos

Hi res version of SONOS: devialet vs bluesound

I listen to a fair amount of hi res music (not that hi res is always significantly better but the mastering of these recordings is often more careful and not overdriven) Although I have a system capable of resolving the differences of hi res and mp3 (maggies, sanders amps, schitt dac and preamp)...

    volti vs klipsch

Thank you for your thoughts. The room is an open space 18ft x 28 ft with a cathedral ceiling elevated along the long axis. The peak is 4 ft higher than the sides. Placement in the corners is not a possibility. At one end of the room is a wall of windows. The other end of the room has a bar in...

    volti vs klipsch

I can find a pair of used klipschorns for $5k. Now, I am not a horn cognoscenti but am wondering how they would sound compared to the volti rival?

20% Tax on Items from Mexico to pay for wall...

A tariff on products (which are the result of an international supply chain) does not make sense when the only nation that suffers (as a result of reduced demand) is the nation that exports them to the US. That nation could easily just send them to their neighbor for export to the US. (Yes I...

Where to process the signal for room correction and subwoofer performance?

Thank you both for your clear replies. MiniDSP has a new product coming out that operates on s/pdif input , the nanoDIGI. Their other product uses hdmi input. Since I am using USB output from a pc, neither of these will work. I guess I could try Dirac live software on the pc. Staying in the...

revel ultima salon2 vs focal sopra no. 2

@Swerd i would say the ethera have the most accuracy given the consistent linearity of their frequency response.

Where to process the signal for room correction and subwoofer performance?

So I am asking about using a sub for augmenting a stereo setup. I am NOT asking about subs for home theater because most multichannel processors for HT have dedicated sub outputs and a way to adjust the crossover frequency. Some processors also offer timing adjustment as well as polarity, etc. I...

    Augmenting Magneplanar 3.7i

Thank you. I was tempted to get the nano DSP which works in the digital realm but they only specify up to 192 kbps. That would exclude any DSD files. And I'd rather not process in the anolg domain because then you have an A/D conversion, followed by the processing, followed by D/A conversion.

Star Wars Rogue One - Very Brief Non Spoiler

Rogue 1 has left story land. The depth of the plot(s), the character development, the cinematography, the editing - all were superb - rendering this the first star wars that was believable in the sense of realism of human emotions, reaction, success, failure, pain and happiness. I did not feel...
