The yoga blocks were delivered after noon today and really improve the bass, so much so that I reduced the LF boost ('Tilt') to flat. Still more bass and good bass extension.And... they look good - more of a charcoal-than black.

A couple of late remarks... I use the R-14M'S as extension speakers for my shortwave receivers where their flat response makes speech recognition better while their bass response makes music more enjoyable. Their sale price of <$100/pr was far less than a physically proper looking speaker made...

If you have the room - a pair of Klipsch Heresys are hard to beat. New H3's will run you closer to $2k, or you can shop C.L., like I did last autumn, and find a nice vintage pair for a fraction of that. Classic speakers - classic sound - and sensitive, too.

I assume you are referring to the OP, VMAT4, but I'll describe my setup in case you were referring to me. I listen to 100% CD's using the headphone jack on my Emotiva A-100 BasX amp driven by my Onkyo C-7030 CDP. The normal speakers used are a vintage pair of Klipsch Heresy's.

I would suggest the US-made Koss Pro-4AA headphones, despite the fact that they are closed-back. They are 'old school' designed and built to last - and seal quite well. All you will hear will come from the transducers - which still have a flat frequency response, decent sensitivity, and ~250 Ohm...

With my asthma and allergies, I, too, would avoid speakers from a smoker. I'd thank him for his honesty! Watch C.L. and evil-bay - more will surface. Also, sniff the grillcloth and woofer surround for evidence of damp storage (mold).

Sounds like a deal! Remember, the Heresys are very position sensitive, behaving best tilted up slightly and in a corner. Don't be afraid to move them in/out, too. They have a great bottom end - it just doesn't go deep - my RB-81ii's, with their 8" LF driver, goes deeper. The Heresy's 12" LF...
