What's the point of having different kinds of speakers

I can't find a definition of Schrader Frequency. Will you help me out with that?

    Site extremely slow...

...or am I being punished? Seems like it takes 30+ seconds to load a page, and often the links (thread links, reply to a post, report a post) don't work at all. Even the links from my e-mail notifications don't take me to the proper thread, they go to the main forum page.

Any Wisdom on Savard Speakers that can be Spared?

I guess I was wrong. I was sure you abandoned us after getting caught. Are you saying what you got here wasn't deserved? That's not much of an apology. I think you were "outed" as having low integrity, and poor business practices. You got the bare minimum of deserved wrath.

Yamaha Integrated Amplifiers Quality and Affordability Unite!

Holy crap. The Mother Lode: From your own article: http://www.audioholics.com/audio-amplifier/impedance-selector-switch-1/what-is-ul-csa-actually-testing and That's EXACTLY what I've been arguing--and taking flack for! 1. Yamaha isn't publishing a 4-ohm FTC spec, which made me doubt the...

Yamaha Integrated Amplifiers Quality and Affordability Unite!

Please present the paragraph in your article that states what you've just said. I cannot find anything like what you've said after reading that article three separate times. I did a word-search, the words "step" (as part of "steps down") "rail", and "derate" do not appear in the article...

Yamaha Integrated Amplifiers Quality and Affordability Unite!

No. You linked me to an article that defines various electrical terms, discusses speaker impedance, how it's measured, how it "used" to be rated, and how it varies with frequency. NOWHERE does it explain what the impedance switch DOES, and why some amplifiers/receivers have one while others do...

FAQ: DTS:X Blu-ray Compatibility, Ported and Stacking Speakers

You're not entirely wrong. Ported speakers--including the passive-radiator (PR) variation--go progressively out-of-phase as the port or PR takes over from the active drivers. The question is whether we can hear this progressive phase problem; and if we "can" hear it, do we notice it? First...

Yamaha Integrated Amplifiers Quality and Affordability Unite!

If "he" is a reference to me, I'm PAINFULLY aware of the stuff I'm forced to buy from China, along with the products I'd buy but haven't because while I may want them, I refuse to give the Communists access to my dollars for something so frivolous. Do you not remember my previous posting about...

Yamaha Integrated Amplifiers Quality and Affordability Unite!

OK, I accept that what I read is a preview. Apparently, the information I consider of "primary" importance isn't a priority to most others. I have read the article, I still do not understand what the switch does. My own amps do not have selector switches. I've never used an amp with a...

    1. Why doesn't the review disclose the Country Of Origin? (Yamaha's web site offers a download of the '801 owner's manual. Back page says "Printed in Malaysia", which may or may not indicate where the product is made.) http://usa.yamaha.com/products/audio-visual/hifi-components/amps/a-s801/...

Coffee snob fooled by blind taste test.

As you might surmise from a bag of coffee grounds lasting 6+ months, that coffee maker hasn't processed as much water as a person might expect in 26 years.

Coffee snob fooled by blind taste test.

My coffee maker is a Made-In-USA Mr. Coffee drippity-drip that we got as a wedding present twenty-six years ago. Someday, it's going to die, and I have no idea what I'll do then. I friggin' refuse to buy a Communist coffee maker, even though I did enjoy a few batches of Vietnamese-style coffee...

Lets cut off stupid discussions about speaker and power cables at the post.

Selecting power cables requires no more knowledge than wire gauge vs. length, and maximum amperage draw/voltage requirement of the equipment. I (and others) say that what happens on the primary side of the transformer is of relatively little consequence provided standard, ordinary AC...

Coffee snob fooled by blind taste test.

Cowboy Coffee: Boil a pot of water--big enough for everyone. Throw a handful of coffee grounds into boiling water. When it smells like coffee, take it off the boil, let the grounds settle. Pour into tin cups. Pour slow, leave the wet grounds in the pot. MMMMmmmmm. Just like...

Cerwin-Vega XLS-215 vs Klipsch RF-7ii. Not comparing bass!!

Am I right? The RF7 II is the Communist Chinese version of the RF7? Klipsch outsourced the "II" version? I wonder how an RF7 compares to an RF7 II.

It'll happen again unless you tune-up the kid and his mother. How many times do you want to fix the speaker?

FCC Net Neutrality Ruling: Do you agree?

I don't expect this to lower my ISP bill. I expect that Net Neutrality etc. will prevent degradation of service from companies too small to pay for "non-throttled" transfer of data.
