    Bookshelf vs. Floorstanding?

I own 20's as well and love them. They are in about a 3000 cubic room and I have no troubles listening to them quite loud. Are all your speakers set to "small" and crossed over at 80Hz? If not that could be a fly in the ointment. Nick

    2-channel advice - Parasound?

There is no reason for you to upgrade. You are probably using three or watts at present. More watts will not improve or alter the sound coming out of your speakers. Nick

    Silver Speaker Wire???

I think this one of those "over complicating it" issues. I suggest purchaseing 12 or 14 gauge copper wire from Home Depot/Radio Shack etc or on line from Blue Jean if looks make a difference and be done with it. There are no audio differences between any of the choices including the silver. I...

    Recommendations for a good Sub

Also, you can call SVS and HSU and tell your needs and they will honestly tell you what sub they sell will meet them. I have a six year old Hsu VTF-2 that still works great, though I don't fire up the whole system every day. When discussing subs, the size of your listening area needs to be in...

Emotiva Audio RPA-1 Stereo Amplifier Review

Your experience would be a red flag for me if I was in the market for a receiver/amp. It seems like you are beta testing for them and they don't have their act together. The low price does not make for all the hassle of shipping and re- shipping etc. If it were me I would send it all back...

    CD or DVD Player Recommendation.

IMO there is no need for a dedicated CD player unless you are hooking it up in analogue mode. If so then I don't know what DAC will please your ears the most or if there is any audible difference at all. If you are connecting digitally Then I would get a Denon or Oppo DVD in the $150 - $220...

Paradigm Studio 20s 5.1 system for large room

I have three Studio 20s as LCR in a big room and they do not tax my Denon 3806 receiver at all. I have them all setup as small crossed over at 80Hz. Nick

    Biwired Speakers to Receiver

I agree with Jeff and Garcia and everyone else, take the bi-wire money and put it in your new speakers fund. Speakers are almost everything in a system for sound quality. If you are happy with the old speakers, buy an inexpensive receiver for around $200.

    Best Speaker Brands

Do what your ears tell you. In the big picture, the speaker are the only things that make any meaningful difference difference. Oh and room acoustics too, but you can not test that in the store. Check out the return policies with the vendor(s). Nick

Would a too powerful sub for quiet music degrade sound quality?

I have tried that on the Hsu without success, but it's six years old so it may not be representative of the current batch of subs. I will have to give it a try on the Rocket. Nick

    Subwoofer Choice

Have the cubic feet/dimensions of your listening room including large openings into other rooms if, appropriate, ready when you call the on line vendors. That's one of the most important factors when getting a sub recommendation. Nick

    Paradigm

Nice system with one caveat. I own (it's in the closet gathering dust) a PDR-8. It's a very poor sub. Boomy poorly defined bass is the problem for me. I have not heard the PDR-10, but it would not be on my list of subs to consider based on my experience with the PDR-8. Nick

Would a too powerful sub for quiet music degrade sound quality?

A word of caution, If you buy a sub with "auto on", quiet music may never turn it on. I have a Hsu VTF-2 and a Rocket UFW-10 and that is a problem with both. I have tinkered with the settings so the sub gets a stronger signal, but it still is not enough of over come the auto on with quiet...

    Strange problem

My experience is that most CDs and some DVDs have practically no dynamic range. You keep trying to get them sound "right" but no matter how much you turn up the volume up it does not help much if at all. The Eagles Concert DVD HFO is a great example of DVD that has great dynamic range. On...

    Paradigm Studio 20 sound alikes?

I have had the Studio 20s v2 for six years and I do get the upgrade urge once in a while and audition some others, but the fit between me and the 20s seems like a long term relationship. I have not heard any of the ID speakers, but if I were to check out that route, based on everything I have...

    Should I sell my stuff?

Keep your current equipment if you like it! Is this a case of upgradities perhaps? The key sentence to me is "I am undecided because I like it so much". Perhaps auditons of speakers in your higher price range will help with your decision. Nick
