    My man cave home theater

I have, just haven't found one that caught my eye. With the spring coming up I'll hit some auctions and flea markets to see if I can find one. The size I'm looking for are crazy expensive new, so second hand will more than likely fit the budget.

    Fed up with Netflix.

I have a couple of words for Comcast that I'll just keep to myself. Can you say monopoly? Just my opinion

    Penncraft solid state record player

I would look into a new cartridge and if required a phono pre amp. I received a turntable and large record collection, and when I hooked it all up I was getting this awful hum and very low volume from the speakers. So I figured I'll replace a couple things, pre amp (25.00 parts express) a new...

Sound suddenly gone from my Denon AVR-789

If it's putting out sound on a test then I think the amp would be fine. I have read before about the input for the headphone jack getting clogged with dust which would then stop the sound. Try blowing that out and see what happens, my other suggestion would be to call Denon technical support...

    Dedicated HT Room advice

I'll give you my take on acoustic panels. Absoulutley, acoustic panels make a significant difference (at least in my case). My designated HT room is the downstairs family room, when the project began I knew I would have to find a solution for the echo sound that I was getting (hardwood floors...

    Home theater ideas

I'd say that would work, possibly time consuming however, it would look great when finished. I definetly would love to see that:) Also I think your insulation would work good for sound absorbtion, As far as the LED strips now that I see the sketch, your not going to have any heat issues...

    Home theater ideas

Any type of translucent white cloth would be fine, LED's put out very minimal heat. As far as what your asking, maybe a rough sketch would give me a better idea of what your trying to accomplish. I've done a substantial amount of ambient lighting before, being in the electrical trade for...

    My man cave home theater

Thanks , I'm in the process of building a new center channel using the tang band w3-881si from parts express. The price was to good not to give them a try, I'll be using four of those drivers wired in series/parallel along with a soft dome tweeter. I'll post the pictures and results soon as...

    7.1 to 5.1

I would have to agree with J_Garcia, 5.1 or in my case 5.2 if setup properly sounds excellent. I recently went back to 5.2 after a few upgrades, and it made a huge difference on sound quality!! I just watched snow white and the huntsman and the horses breathing to my right and left were a...

    Bi-Amping center chennel

1 channel on that amp is more than enough power for that center channel. You should be able to bridge that amp to mono, which in my opinion would make more sense. What do you have driving your other speakers?

car audio - power cable selection

I can only give you my thoughts on a larger wire for a car than home. I would have to say it has to do with the direct current that is used by a car as opposed to alternating current in a home. Direct current is primarily a lower voltage (12v car battery)and also flows one direction as where...

    My man cave home theater

I did some research through some DIY sites, a couple YouTube videos and just went with it. I've always been a DIY kinda guy, so the panels were a pleasure to do, also it does help to have access to a complete wood shop with all the toys :) I think in the very near future I'm going to build new...

    My man cave home theater

Well the plants are artificial so no worries. The second sub is on the right side of couch which is centered in the middle of the room. As far as the panels I have roughly 80.00 or so dollars in them, wood and fabric about 60.00 and the sound insulation 20.00, about one day build time so not...

    My man cave home theater

Update! Ok, so I'm back to 5.2 after a few upgrades including (Marantz DP-870) I have found that the sound is tremendously better than the 7.1 through the receiver. Also I was lucky enough to find 2 JBL 10" subs of of Ebay at a very good price. The amps were shot so the subs were pulled out...

Panasonic Plasma HORIZANTAL banding and some vertical....

I also have a plasma, can't say I've ever noticed anything like that. Although I usually only watch movies on it, occasionally some TV, ill do some research on the issue, if I find anything I'll post the results. In the meantime hope your issue gets resolved.

    LCD vs. Plasma

A darker room that doesnt receive a lot of light, plasma for sure. I have one in the HT room, and an LCD in the family room upstairs, my opionion the plasma is a smoother and much better picture. Yes a plasma does use a bit more energy than LCD, however I'd say it's very minimal in comparison...
