Thanks PD! I'll be trying that out today. I dont last long at max volume, but I do have a kicker every now and then with a really good song. And yes, I have a tiny room. The weird is that on max volume, the concrete basement does such a nice job of containing noise that I can just heard a...

Hahaha FR - the funny thing is that yes, I did slightly change my electrical connections in that I run the lot off a high end surge protector. It naturally has its own on/off switch, which I switched off, and unlugged. I also plugged the HSU directly into the wall for a change instead of running...

Back after a holiday abroad, and one of the things I did prior to going, was to unplug all electrical components in case there was a surge/ storm. All I have now is the Onkyo 818, PS3, ATV1+3, Ascends and HSU. I did add a 230mm fan though (USB powered) on top of the Onk to help draw away some...

So, you think you have a good garage?

Jack, you look like an OK guy. Congrats on learning those skills and making it happen. Two thumbs up for you mate.

Very excited to read what's being written, and hopefully this long thread will help other noobs learn how to take an inspired purchase and make it great - for them. I'll be reporting back with findings, and Josten, thanks for educating me on the distance equation for Audy! Shady, also to you...

Hi Guys, I got the most phenomenal feedback and input from First Reflection, I'd like to state here publicly my sincere appreciation for the effort this man puts into this community. A quick and brief update. I got the Pioneer SC 1527K hooked up - and I'll be frank - I hated doing it...

If I do go ahead with the XPA5, it seems logical to me to plug in my sub, fronts and centre into the amp. I know that leaves one channel free, but I'll use the PRE or the Onkyo to drive the rear surrounds. Does that make sense? And just use RCA cables to connect pre to amp? Shady...

Thanks Shady, good advice. I'll re-run Audy to see if there's any change. I must admit that today I decided to walk around the room with eyes closed (:P) to really focus on the music. I was amazed at how different the system can sound according to where one sits/stands. From empty bass to...

Gotcha - that makes sense to me when comparing amps. But what about Pre's though Shady? I would imagine that processing signals differently would result in a different sound.

Hizzaah, thanks mate - got the dynamic audio settings turned to low or even zero. Playing again, and while I have that 50% improvement in sound, I'm still seeking the balance. I think speaker placement will help a lot, but I am curious about a different pre/amp

After reading Dwaleke's comments on how the sound changed when he had the Onkyo vs UMC200 acting as pre-amp, it certainly stands to reason there might be something there, which is why I wrote what I did above. The XPA5 can do 200W all channels driven while the Onkyo does 135W? Quite a bit...

Bump for advice regarding the questions above :) please Questions: 1) Is there any benefit to keeping the Onkyo? (I got it at a pretty darn good price). I want to eventually add speakers to the top and middle floor of my house, and I'll need more than the 7channel output of the Outlaw. 2)...

Some opinions please: I have an Onkyo 818. I love playing music through an app on my phone etc, and controlling it anywhere seamlessly in the house. Video is excellent, and the receiver shines at +75% output and beyond. Prior to that, it lacks detail, "size" and depth. Imo. I've been looking...

Thanks guys. ShadyJ, I think it was Pure Audio and then secondly on Unplugged. I am scared to try again in all honesty. There's an outside chance it was happening on All Channel Stereo, but I am unsure of that.

Thanks ShadyJ, answer c: no I wasnt, I would expect a clicking noise if I was flipping through listening modes. The clicking sound is coming through the subwoofer and fronts it seemed. Scared me too. What are your best thoughts there? Tx

ShadyJ, thank you for that link. I've not had the time to go through it, but I will be taking a big read on it. I discovered what I think is 50% of the problem. The speaker settings were all messed up. Distance to speakers was out by 40%, the speaker output levels were bizarre, the surrounds...

CPP, the height of the Ascends are just below ear level at present. Their speaker stands (which I have paid for) are on back order, will be available end Jan. Shady, I just played Prometheus through "Pure Audio" - and I have to say that I like it a lot better. For the first time, I can actually...

I thought I might sneak some time off work to have some fun :) Further listening: Setup: All on "Unplugged" setting on Onkyo, with Audyssey XT32 running the show. All 5 channels active. Q control on HSU set low which gives tight base, with phase at 0. Only running at <25% of HSU output, as...

Sustained some neck damage recently, and so took time away from the forum to finish hanging ceiling/walls in the garage, mount the rear HTM 200 speakers, get the electronics mostly hooked up downstairs (home theatre room) and attend to pressing home matters. Oh, and that pesky thing called work...

Gentlemen, thank you for fine contributions. I am digesting what has been said, and feel that I should mount my surrounds and finalise their in wall /ceiling cabling before I run the Audyssey again. For reference, I ran the Audyssey on the front 4 speakers only at ear level (couch, seated...
