Adding a used ATI, Parasound or Anthem amp for LCR....

I think the crossovers are quite different too. The R meta series are now rated 4 ohms. The old R100 through R900 were rated 8 ohm nominal, with dips to 3.2 to 3.7 ohms.

Best mid range receiver for 4 ohm towers?

No!! I have repeated on forums about such internet hearsay, misconception..., the fact is, it depends on what kind of "support" ones mean, or want, in terms of driving such low impedance (lower than 6 ohms nominal) speakers. Most AVRs, unless they have a impedance sensing device such that it...

    Upgrade Receiver/amp?

The Outlaw likely have a larger power supply, but I am thinking of the Hypex based class D amps, such as the NC252MP based ones. Your RX-A860's preouts are not adequate for those power amps that have a few dB lower gain than Emotiva's and the AVR's build in amps. The AVR-X6700H will have no...

    Upgrade Receiver/amp?

If you felt the Cinema 50 was a lateral move, then the A4A wouldn't make a difference. The A6A should be able to do it. The AVR-X6700H is quite powerful too so it may work as well. If not, the you can add a 3 channel power amp but not the Emotiva Bass X, need something more powerful.

I appreciate that you stated it in a less generic way this time.:)

Best mid range receiver for 4 ohm towers?

Basically yes, lots of marketing for sure, for example, Denon, Marantz, Onkyo and other AVR manufacturers will use the term "high-current" amplifiers to describe even their entry level AVRs. Nothing wrong technically speaking, until you want to find out how high is "high", there is no...

Marantz AV 10 15.4CH AV Processor Bench Test Results!

Where's @M Code when we need to hear from him? It would be great if he could get us some ideas as to who really are the big players in the current AVR/AVP/AMPs/Streamers manufacturing, like who's been selling more, Yamaha, Marantz, Denon, or Onkyo? And, would he be able to tell us who's...

Marantz AV 10 15.4CH AV Processor Bench Test Results!

They target people who are willing to shop in the market for the so called money no object group. If the design/manufacturing teams of smaller AVR/AVP manufacturers such as Anthem (lots of bugs at launch time of their MRX and AVM in around 2020/21) were given the kind of budget Trinnov's...

Best mid range receiver for 4 ohm towers?

Funny enough, on that I think he believes, at least in terms of real world use because I remember he mentioned more than once before, that while most speakers really should be rated 4 ohm nominal, he also expressed that the very few truly "difficult to drive" speakers are of poor design. On...

Best mid range receiver for 4 ohm towers?

I tried explaining how AVRs works or not work with the so called 4 ohm nominal speakers, yes, including some that dips below such as his that has 1.6 ohm dip. He continued to choose to believe what he believes, that has a lot to do with his misconception, and that might have led to what he...

Best mid range receiver for 4 ohm towers?

I would suggest you buy the $20 MultEQ Editor app that may please you enough. If not then, wait for Dirac's 30% sale that will most likely be back soon enough and consider the lower priced 500 Hz limit instead of the full bandwidth version that cost much more. Lots of people find room...

I am equally impressed with Nord's apparent build quality and their ASR measurements. They may be a little more expensive vs Apollon's and I just like Apollon's participation on ASR very much. I cannot say the same the big US dealer, i.e. VTV, I would still recommend them for those with a...

Best mid range receiver for 4 ohm towers?

Unless you actually need it, there is no point paying $600. Same mentality may apply to buying a 7 years old flagship vs the high value X3800H that is still current in terms of features.

Marantz AV 10 15.4CH AV Processor Bench Test Results!

I would still recommend the two US companies I bought from but I prefer Apollon now based on: a) Apparent competitive price but better build quality, just visually based on their website photos only so could be wrong. b) Better measurements, superb for the NCx500, that is a fact based on ASR...

Best mid range receiver for 4 ohm towers?

I just mean the master volume that is display on the front panel. -35 would be quite low and it shouldn't trigger the protective circuit. If you do have volume set at around -35 or even -25, then it means you don't listen to loud music/movies. In that case, the Onkyo RZ50 should be...

    Onkyo RZ50 Speaker impedance settings

Officially, you should follow what they say in the owner's manual. From performance standpoint, some people might/would prefer to leave it at the 6 ohm setting, because they don't want the device to limit the output. Those users likely feel comfortable that for their own use, they will...

The following will help you understand what it means: SPL Calculator: How Loud Will Your Amplifier and Speakers Go? | Home Cinema Guide (the-home-cinema-guide.com) At your listening position, you won't get close to 105 dB, that is the so called reference level based on THX standard, until you...

Best mid range receiver for 4 ohm towers?

That's useful info, if your Denon would "cut out..", then you likely would have the same issue with the RZ50, based on bench test results. So, the AVR-X3800H is probably the better choice for you. You do have to pay for the Dirac Live license, but you can always try Audyssey and buy the...

Couldn't you just set the XO to the lowest allowed, that should be equivalent to running your speakers full range, or at least close enough?
