Break In Time on Klipsch RF-82 II

I see a lot of opinions being thrown around, but is there anyone here who have actually designed, built, and tested loudspeakers and amplifiers? It always amazes me why more people into electronics refuse to learn anything first hand. Do some testing people! ABSOLUTELY there's a break-in...

Philharmonic Audio - 3-way open back ML-TQWTs designed by Dennis Murphy

Here's the thing... In theory, both types of speakers should sound fine in a surround sound system. As a matter of fact, most theaters use directional surrounds. But!!! And there's a big but! All decent theaters use a dozen plus directional speakers. Why? So that they won't sound so directional...

Philharmonic Audio - 3-way open back ML-TQWTs designed by Dennis Murphy

Monk, for mutli-channel music sure... But if that system doubles up for home theater, then having directional rear speakers in a 5.1 (or 7.1) set-up is just about the worst thing you can do :(

Philharmonic Audio - 3-way open back ML-TQWTs designed by Dennis Murphy

You forgot to mention that ribbon tweeters usually have poor vertical off-axis response. Especially the ones longer than 3". The listener has to sit still and not move :) Having said that, there are ribbons that sound almost lifelike, despite the shortcomings in lower end distortion, etc. RAAL...

Tip of the Day: Don't Get too Bent on Loudspeaker Specifications & Measurements

I must say, I have also never seen any worthy proof that a speaker with a first order crossover exists. And let's make something clear here, we are not talking about electrical 6dB, we are talking about a speaker which hits true 6dB acoustical slopes. Would sure love to hear one! It has been...

    crossovers

You guys are acting like this is some sort of a miracle while it couldn't be more pedestrian. It's a simple Cauer/elliptic filter. Has been around since the start of electronics. I've seen it in hundreds of audio related products, ranging from passive speaker crossovers to active and digital...

Tip of the Day: Don't Get too Bent on Loudspeaker Specifications & Measurements

Can anyone guess which manufacturer is represented in that graph? The name starts with a "Z." The speaker measured is simply horrendous. Both in measurements and in the actual sound!

They do. Take a look at B&W...

Why I went with the Aperion VGT over others.

They are caused by diffraction. A combination of baffle edges, tweeter's faceplate, and grill.

Why I went with the Aperion VGT over others.

The Paradigm Studio 20's tweeter does not have break-up from 4kHz-20kHz. It's actually a very clean, low distortion, and well designed tweeter. The break-up happens just above 20kHz. There's no bacon there. The speaker may have faults elsewhere, but not here. I hate to see a very good product...
