    Which FM Tuner? E.g. Yamaha-TX-497, Sangean-HDT-1X, Teac TR-670.

I've had my Sony XDR-F1HD for a few days now. I think a lot of people would be very, very surprised by what it can do. Analog FM reception is a whole new ballgame with this technology, and the price of admission ($100) is pretty sweet.

    Which FM Tuner? E.g. Yamaha-TX-497, Sangean-HDT-1X, Teac TR-670.

I've got a Sony XDR-F1HD coming in the mail tomorrow, and am very excited about it, largely due to the already-much-discussed unpredecented FM reception capabilities. Apparently some newly developed chips take it where FM tuners have never gone before. Not a bad deal for $100. Links about...

    Headphone System Help

Agreed... based on experience. I've got a Corda HA-1 headphone amplifier and a Behringer UB802 mixer both hooked into my system. For headphone listening, the UB802 mixer gets used everyday while the Corda HA-1 generally sits idle. Set flat, they sound the same (perfectly transparent) to me...

    flaws in Christine Tham's articles

Very interesting. Welcome to audioholics. I hope you'll stick around, and bring some of the other people from hydrogen with you. The spirit is definitely right here, but the level of expertise is not always as high as you find at hydrogen.:)

    Open or Closed back headphones??

I've got 3 kids, aged 1 to 5. I know of what you speak. So 200 pounds is a about 370 dollars? (Just googled it.) For that money I'd get a pair of Sony V6/7506s (closed), some Beyer DT250 pads (about $20) for the V6/7506s to make them more comfy and improve the isolation a little, and some...

Cheap 2.0 Stereo System Dedicated For Music Only

I've had my Primus 150s for a little over a year now. Here's a little review I wrote up shortly after I got them: http://forums.audioholics.com/forums/showthread.php?t=12526&highlight=infinity I'm listening to them right now, in fact. For just sitting around and enjoying music, they're...

Reporting of a new at-home double-blind ABX cable test

Thanks. I deleted that last link. If someone wants to see it they can go to hydrogenaudio.org or hifiwigwam.com.:o

Reporting of a new at-home double-blind ABX cable test

I apologize if this violates some posting terms, but it's less work, and it gives credit where credit is due -- a thread from objectivist-friendly hydrogen audio, reporting a double-blind power cord test at hifiwigwam.com forums: Edit: It'd be nice if a mod could change the title to reflect it...

    Encoding question

Don't know what your encoder is, but in general 192kbps MP3 sounds transparent to me for day-to-day purposes. Others will tell you differently. I suppose there is a CODEC bad enough to be problematic with normal music at 192 kbps or to someone with absolutely superior hearing (much more rare...

RIAA Sues XM Over the Pioneer Inno

That's awful. What a waste of our taxper-funded court system, and I'd like to know exactly how this will promote the sciences and useful arts (the constitutional basis for copyright law). Current copyright law is a total abomination of the framers' intent, hijacked, bought and paid for by the...

    Corda Headphone Amp

I have an old Corda HA-1, too. It's nice to have both the 0 and 120 ohm outputs. I like the big volume knob too. I find it to be fairly immune to ground loop noise too, and exceptionally quiet, even with Sony V6s. Overall, massively overpriced for what it does, but much better than your...

    Overbright sound

Very cool, Chris! Thanks for the link to the old thread. I use a Behringer DEQ2496 with my headphone setup, and keep different presets for different headphones. The world's greatest audio toy, I like to say. I use a very old Yamaha 10 band equalizer with my living room speaker set-up...

Anyone using a Behringer as an EQ??

I use a Behringer DEQ2496 in my headphone setup (I'm a headphone nut). I love it. I adjust by ear and also use published frequency response curves for my phones in playing with the EQ. I am no expert, but I have read that the DAC chips in the DEQ2496 are the same as in most expensive studio...

    Criteria for choosing headphones

Actually he designed and described how to build VERY low-cost passive EQ devices to get the EX71 and the ER-4S up to reference quality. Pretty interesting, I think.:) http://www.linkwitzlab.com/reference_earphones.htm

    Criteria for choosing headphones

Too funny! Here's a little help for "the reader": http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=linkwitz&btnG=Google+Search I'd be honored beyond words to be invited to such a party! (Edit: Before warpdrive edited his post between my reading it and my replying to it, he kindly recommended that I...

    Criteria for choosing headphones

IMHO, WmAx was being very polite and under-stated in his recommendation. I own the EX71s and have heard the ER-4S. My conclusion: They're both really nice, but I can't stand IEMs for practical reasons. Just for another data point, then, here's a review of some IEMs from a true world-class...

    Criteria for choosing headphones

Very interesting thread! After reading through it, my opinions, in no particular order: 1) Ipod is a high-performance audio device, but keep the load 30 ohms or higher. (I have an ipod). 2) The Sony V6, Senn HD280, and Bose QC2 are all nice isolating phones. No question, the V6 and HD280...

Speaker Break In: Fact or Fiction?

Beyond a second or two of burn-in, I don't think it occurs with headphones. I've never seen anything to prove otherwise. Your ears (and mind) do adjust to sound over time though, which can lead to enjoying your headphones more over time, IMHO. I've experienced this many times, with headphones...
