    How loud is too loud?

    90 DB is the threshold. You want to stay below that. First reply was the best, get a meter to measure DB, if you are below 90 DB, you should be ok.

    not an expert here but couldn't you connect your devices to power on from the main amp/receiver so that every time you start the receiver, the other devices turn on too? Jinku or BoredSysAdmin might have an advice for you.

    Windows 8 boots in 8 seconds

    well my Linux box with Core2 Duo (Conroe version) boots in less than 11 seconds with a 7200 RPM hard drive so if I get that i7 with the SSD then it will be less than 5 seconds. oh wait windows booting in 8 seconds I guess that is to be proud of or wait...?:D

    If you record, then why not look into studio monitors with multiple inputs? then you dont have to buy a receiver either? And as for streaming, I am not sure if logitech's squeezebox will do? M-Audio BX5A

    i agree speaker sound is very subjective so no need to bash around people. for example i personally like the gradual bass rolloff below 55 Hz. 20 Hz is not even audible at that point but its just what i like. But some mates i know do want 20 Hz at reference level - but I dont like that frequency...
