I Think My NAD Amp Remote Control Is Dying

Dunno why you would be adverse to using Isopropyl Alcohol for cleaning electronics? I've used IPA routinely and never had any problems related to that choice, even 70% has been fine. Denatured alcohol has additives to denature it, and those are more likely to leave a residue. With that being...

    Good upgrade from VSX-54TX

My VSX-82TX has seen daily use for at least 16 years now, in my main LR setup for 12 years, and in a bedroom setup for the last 4 years. It's a beast and has been rock solid reliable. BUT....when it was time for a new unit for the LR, I went with Denon. Today for an AVR, I would ONLY be...

The Theremin is 100 Years Old this Year! (Worlds first electronic instrument)

I've see Man or Astroman pull out the Therimin for a live set a couple times. These guys NEVER disappoint (sci-fi meets surf rock)

Adding high quality audio streaming capabilities to my Denon X4500H and Ceol N11DAB?

Raspberry PI with Volumio and a good DAC HAT is all you need. It is not plug and play, but it is not difficult to configure and step by step instructions are available online. In many ways, this is an ideal setup.

Black Thought + Danger Mouse: Cheat Codes Aug 12, 2022

The Roots still play live gigs pretty often, despite not releasing albums in a while. I like a lot of the stuff featuring Mos Def and/or Talib Kwali. I agree, Things Fall Apart is my favorite album. Black Thought seems to be under rated to me. I've only seen them live once, around 2001 or so...

Philharmonic Audio - BMR Tower speakers in Piano Black - Unboxing Video

When I first started listening to my DIY BMR bookshelf speakers, my initial impression was, "these sound kind of flat" (in a not so great way) As I listened longer it became, "wow, these sound really flat!"-- as in a ruler flat FR and in a good way.

Radical Idea for Specialty AV Retailer to Win Loyal Customers

I can personally give 2 anecdotes at complete opposite ends of the spectrum. When I went auditioning and ultimately purchased my GE T2 towers-- I went into the dedicated high end audio shop just dressed in shorts and T-Shirt. Told the guy I was there to listen to some speakers, and wanted to...

What New Stuff Have You Bought? If You Care To Share Thead! :)

New Balance 990 for me for many many years. But now I think the Brooks Ghost fit me better, seems to be more width options and the toe box fits me better.

Using external DAC with AVR for Direct music audio

My philosophy for all of my work and hobbies is to start SIMPLE, then ONLY add complexity to solve a problem. Adding needless complexity is a problem in itself. Going by this philosophy, you are likely wasting time/$/rack space by adding needless complexity when you add an external DAC just...

    Network Audio Streamer recommends...

RPi is a great option, but using a Pi4 doesn't really gain anything vs. the earlier models. Heck, I think you could get the same performance from a pi zero and a good DAC hat.

Record Store Day April 23, 2022!! What are you getting? R U Going? (In the U.S.)

I used to go to the RS days, but it just seemed like they started getting too crowded for my liking....I don't need a special day to go to the record shop! Dang, I don't think I could do 6 stores in a single day, maybe 2. Around central tx, I like Half Price Books, I have found a few gems in...

I had company for breakfast this morning.

I never realized they range that far north. Seen plenty of them in the deep south USA. Pretty common to see people down here that have put up "Martin Houses" specifically to encourage their nesting.

They claim: The Austin Record Convention is the largest sale of recorded music in the USA. I have attended it in the past, but it has been many years ago. I may make it out there this year.

McIntosh C28 - Finding Capacitors close to original specs!

Mouser is likely the best, and I have a hard time believing they don't have the parts you need. Digikey is good, but they tend to be a little more $ vs. mouser. I also like parts-express.com but, they don't have near the selection as mouser. What is it about your ebay kit that makes you say...

OLED all day long, no doubts in my mind it is the choice today. As they say, pay high once and cry once, pay low several times and cry several times. Linear Power Supply with audio-grade Caps is any better than similar high-quality caps?

To revise--classic amp topology such as Class A or A/B is where an unregulated linear power supply is the ideal choice. Other topologies and supplying power from a DC source can be exceptions. To clarify, unregulated means that there is no dedicated IC or other discreet circuits specifically...
