How to Use A Speaker Selector for Multi-Room Audio

Zone limits Sometimes your receiver has no multi-zone capacity or you'd simply like audio distributed in your home. It's much better to have multiple speakers at lower vine than blare the main ones of you want it for whole house audio. Even if your system has two or three zones you might...

    HDMI 2.0 Specification Formally Announced

What a pandora's box you've opened! I unfortunately deal with HDMI all the time. There are problems where it's the cable, not the product. and sometimes it's not even the product itself but just how two particular products communicate. They may be fine on their own, but put that exact pairing...

    HDMI 2.0 Specification Formally Announced

I'm very glad you've never had the issues before. Sometimes two companies just don't like each other over HDMI ;) My TV is an older Sony LCD. The LCD panels are starting to go, so I'm holding on for dear life until it finally dies! My Sony also gave me the pink screen of wonder on and off...

    HDMI 2.0 Specification Formally Announced

New audio specs for HDMI: 32 channels The 32 channels will evidently allow for 7.1 audio (8 channels) to up to 4 different users (8x4=32 channels they are touting). It's unclear if the 32 channels are intended for a single installation, but that's evidently inferred in the spec. Think Dolby...

    Paradigm?

Ditto to what FMW said. The plus side too if you want better performance and dynamics you can always upgrade the amp down the road.

SVS Ultra Tower Speakers Contest—VOTE NOW!!!

And I have to tell you (actually I already did in the review) these speakers really kick. It's a great, great opportunity to let us enthusiasts get their hands on speakers and equipment we otherwise wouldn't have a chance to audition or demo. Let's save any congratulations until tomorrow. And...

    Dining room speaker placement

I've done just that--but a bit higher than outlet height. I did it with Atlantic Technology in-wall speakers. The Atlantic tech speakers allow for a 20 degree adjustment on the tweeter, so what I did was deliberately install them upside down so that the tweeter would fire up instead of down...

Something wrong with my loudspeakers (sound sample)

Sorry to hear that you're having problems with the speakers. Just to be clear, is it what I perceived to be a propelar-like sound? Does it sound to you like when there's a certain range of notes there's a flapping of something? I'm not familiar at all with the speakers and I'd be curious to...

What's the Deal with Setting Speakers to Large vs Small??? Why SMALL???

Agreed on all points. The biggest difference is clearly the software. I haven't heard the difference between the stock and pro versions but those who have heard the pro version swear by it.

What's the Deal with Setting Speakers to Large vs Small??? Why SMALL???

I second this. After you calibrate with room EQ, it will set either -10 or 0 as what the processor defines as reference level.

What's the Deal with Setting Speakers to Large vs Small??? Why SMALL???

The quality of the microphone with the calibration solution indeed makes a difference. If you're using Audyssey and serious about the best performance, then you need to look at upgrading to the Audyssey Pro. With that, you get a calibrated microphone and you get before and after results. All...

What's the Deal with Setting Speakers to Large vs Small??? Why SMALL???

Afterlife, I have set music and movies with two different settings. Anthem receivers and pre-pros allow you to have two different settings for two different source materials. Anthem calls them "Music" and "Movies" but it's just "source 1" and "source 2". By default, the Anthem puts "movies"...

SVS Ultra Tower Review by Ted Nicolakis

Summary and Final Thoughts I have to say that I very much enjoyed my review time with the SVS Ultra Towers. I tried to find faults with them, but once the ARC issue was solved, I didn’t have much to criticize. I found the Ultras to be lots of fun—especially with movies. Ultimately, isn’t the...

SVS Ultra Tower Review by Ted Nicolakis

Movies: With music out of the way, it was time to test out how the Ultra Towers would sound with movies. I decided to throw in a mix of BluRay movies including a Netflix HD stream. Star Trek: J.J. Abrams First up was Star Trek. In honor of the new Star Trek: Into Darkness movie, I popped in the...

SVS Ultra Tower Review by Ted Nicolakis

Adele, Indigo Girls, Sarah McLachlan I love female vocalists and I feel as though how a speaker plays female vocalists is a good indicator of the speaker’s overall abilities. First, I turned to Adele’s Skyfall from the Bond movie of the same name and it came across in all it’s big, brassy...
