    Yet Another Statements Build!

Yes, and I'm definitely splitting hairs, both will play plenty loud.

    Yet Another Statements Build!

This^ x2. It was a pretty even swing between those that preferred the ER18 and those that preferred the Statements. I really think if it's a consideration of one or the other, I would try hard to hear both. Both speakers are incredibly well received by those that have them, and FWIW I could...

    Yet Another Statements Build!

The short answer is... no, this isn't likely.

    Yet Another Statements Build!

Sorry for the very late response, I just saw this. That^ is not correct. When Jinjuku heard my Statements 2 of the mid's cones were wrinkled due to a mishap with a nephew, but they still played. I can only surmise that this is what people heard. The xovers are (and were) correct; I can post pics...

    Controlling speaker directivity

I played with this with my Blues MTM ML/TL in my shop. My tweeters are at about 37", and whenever I stood up the speakers would loose a bit of depth. So I put them at a 7 degree slope back, and they're perfect; they sound incredible sitting and standing. That doesn't do much for off axis (but...

New DIY MTM Towers designed by Dennis Murphy and Paul Kittinger

Jonas, just remembered something from a while ago. My cousin and I have both been hugely into stereos since we were kids. About 6 months ago I told him I wanted to try to build something that sounded better than the ER18s. His response was... "That's going to be really hard, first you'd have to...

New DIY MTM Towers designed by Dennis Murphy and Paul Kittinger

I could def do that. The main reason I wanted to try it is just to hear the dome version. But you're right, the baffle rebuild is why it'll probably never happen, the Fountek is quite a bit bigger than that Dayton.

New DIY MTM Towers designed by Dennis Murphy and Paul Kittinger

I've never heard that Bryston, but from what I have heard from them I'm sure it's a phenomenal amp. I was using an Adcom 5500 amp and a B&K Reference 50 pre for mine, I just replaced those with a Carver 1.5t amp and a Spectral preamp. I'll say again these are incredibly transparent speakers, and...

New DIY MTM Towers designed by Dennis Murphy and Paul Kittinger

Just wanted to chime in. I just came up from listening to mine and after however many years and hearing countless other speakers I still love the way they sound. Very much full range (unless you love bass, and I mean car audio style bass). They're incredibly transparent, and IMO it would be...

    My CES Experience

Sorry to hear about your mom, and glad you're doing ok. I understand the yacht dilemma well, I'd have one too but I can't afford the gas...:D. I LOVE being on the water. I'm about 45 minutes from Lake Michigan, we go there all the time in the spring/summer with our boat (not a yacht...

    My CES Experience

Well hope you're doing well and it isn't for health or financial reasons. I've never heard the Veracity but would love to someday. I did briefly meet Jim Salk 2 years ago at Axpona, nice guy as well. It's funny how that works with the drivers, you could blind fold me and drag me into all the...

    My CES Experience

Also, good to here from you as well. You still building speakers? Anything fun cooking right now? I'm actually about to start what I hope to be my reference 3 way. I have all the drivers, just need to wrap up a few builds I have going before I can start that one. One I forgot to put up is the...

    My CES Experience

He said the majority of their market is actually Asia, oil money I'd guess. Realistically I wonder how many of any of those speakers they really sell, aside from the PSB, Bryston, and ATC, which are still nothing I would exactly call the affordable speaker market :)

    My CES Experience

Been a while since I posted here but just thought I'd share my experience. I was able to go to CES this year with Mark Sayers, one of the owners of Meniscus Audio. I actually got into building speakers thanks to you guys here ; one evening (years ago) I was searching for some info on a new...

    DIY -> pretty speaker cables

I think the batteries help w/ skin effect too... :p Nice write up, thanks for sharing!! I did a similar thing, but I used 25' Walmart extension cords for like $7 each. Cut them up and pulled the 14 gauge wire out.

    Oh Boy

The steam makes perfect sense, that's the water method. I know it was time consuming and expensive, but not only will you not see them in another house, you won't find that quality anywhere at a big box store. Those will last longer than you'll probably want them to based on how you explained...

    Oh Boy

This is the right way to do it. The liquid nails (or I'm betting probably polyurethane construction adhesive) is actually stronger than the wood itself. Smoothing it out w/ epoxy is a crazy extra step so I'm sure your cabinet is good for life. The curved, solid hardwood door is another, totally...

    Oh Boy

I didn't see that he put wood filler in the kerfs, I'll have to go back over his build and look at what he used. If he just used wood filler it won't do anything for structural integrity, it might as well be plaster. If he used some sort of construction adhesive, epoxy, fiberglass, etc... then...

    Oh Boy

I would be worried about it cracking, his kerfs were pretty deep. I think it would be solid if you coated it w/ at least a layer of fiberglass on the inside or something like that. IMO, for curved cabinets I'll stick w/ either 2 or 3 layers of 1/4" MDF, bent around some frames/bracing (rather...
