Wanted: Bookshelves or towers for budget bedroom setup

I have a pair of Axiom M3Ti's that I am no longer using. They have a light oak finish. Very nice looking. Used lightly only about a year or two. In like new condition in the original boxes. Bass is very good. Dialogue is really terrific. I used them with my TV set up at the time and they...

    Suggestions for acoustic dampening

If it's fiberglass then it can't be foam. Good thing too because foam is not a very effective acoustic treatment.

    Suggestions for acoustic dampening

I would consider putting some RealTraps HF MiniTraps on the ceiling. That should help with the low ceiling. Put several of them side by side across the ceiling at the point of first reflection, which you can locate using a mirror. RealTraps have something called a post base rigid mounting kit, 4...

    Analog Bass Management Anyone?

Post Post script I finally received the Marchand XM46SB passive crossovers in December. The 2-channel low-pass filters, one at 80 Hz with 18 dB/oct slope per channel and the other at 150 Hz with 12dB/oct per channel, were intended to blend with the front L/R and surround L/R speakers...

New Energy Star Requirement Dumps Your Giant Plasma

I don't know what the hullabaloo is all about. Energy Star carries no mandates. It's the energy equivalent of putting the calories per serving on a food item. What Energy Star does do is encourage manufacturers to make their products more efficient. What is the objection to that? (No need to...

    BDP-95 goes kaput already

Absolutely not. Do the math. Even if mine was the first one off the assembly line (which it was not) there is no way the original unit would have had only 30 days remaining under the warranty.

    BDP-95 goes kaput already

Believe what you like. Oppo placed it in writing on the invoice. No room there for any communication error. My guess is that the replacement unit may have been returned by someone else, though that is only a guess. The 30 day warranty was in writing.

    Analog Bass Management Anyone?

Post script The plot thickened when I replaced my surround speakers recently. I concluded that I needed a higher XO to the sub for the surround speakers than for my front speakers. So having just the one in the DD-15 would not be enough. I am now awaiting delivery on a pair of Marchand XM46SB...

    BDP-95 goes kaput already

More like months. I returned it for a refund and bought another one. Oppo would only warrant the replacement unit for 30 days. I love the new one, especially the DSD direct decoding option. Even on CDs, it bests other players I've heard that have high quality DACs. As I see it, the...

Analogue Audio or HDMI for OPPO BDP 95

BDP-95 has DSD direct decoding option I don't know of another multichannel player that will decode multichannel DSD in its native format. It's changed the whole way I listen to music. Of course, you will have to do any post-processing yourself, as the player outputs it just as it is on the...

    Subs frequency response...higher end

low-pass filter I toyed with the idea of measuring the output of the DD-12 with the internal crossover turned off to see what the response of the Velodyne DD series subwoofer of that size was, up into the lower and middle midrange. But without any way of gauging distortion, I don't think it...

    Subs frequency response...higher end

Does anyone know if the Velodyne DD series satisfy these criteria? I have a DD-15 and added a DD-12 to fill in a broad dip I had in the 60 to 80 Hz region. Like the original poster, I am interested in the high end of the frequency response for listening to music. I recently replaced my...

    Analog Bass Management Anyone?

Wrap up Despite numerous (unrelated) trials and tribulations, I finally have everything together and working in sync on my DSD-direct external crossover workaround. One key was to add a pair of summing amps (ATI SUM100) to combine the L/R front and L/R surrounds from the Parsound P7 pre-amp...

    BDP-95 goes kaput already

Who's John? Someone must know something I don't. I was referring to the reception my problem got at Oppo. I don't know anyone here named John. If I offended John, please accept my apologies because it was certainly not my intent.

    BDP-95 goes kaput already

I don't doubt what you say about them. However, what you call making a mountain out of a mole hill, I see as simple arrogance on their part. We'll see how it all "plays" out. ;)

    BDP-95 goes kaput already

Product on its way I got a boilerplate e-mail from Oppo this morning letting me know that my "product" was ready to be shipped. A couple of hours before, I got a shipment notification from FedEx with the following message, I assume from the Oppo service people: So, I guess the only question...

    Front Speaker Placement

I had never thought of that. Thank you for pointing it out. BTW, I did try moving my fronts a little further apart. I ended up moving them back to where they were because the sub did not do as well further toward the right side wall. No surprise really.

    BDP-95 goes kaput already

Just two months after I received my new Oppo BDP-95 player, I have had to send it back for warranty service. On SACD's and DVD-A's, the player's analog outputs (both stereo and multichannel) produce exceedingly high levels of hiss and distortion and, in the worst instances, a gurgling sound...
